  • Cosmo to start charging resort fee?

While hunting for Cosmo deals I ran across this statement on lastminute.com/res99.com:

    Important Hotel Information
Starting Dec 3rd 2012 any guest arriving on or after January 1st, 2013 will be charged 25 resort fee per room, per night upon arrival at The Cosmopolitan. This resort fee will include the following amenities:

Unlimited Wi-Fi , Local and long distance telephone calls (within the continental US), Fitness center access (for registered guests) and

Tennis court access (based upon availability)
I can't find anything else that states this, and it wasn't on the Cosmo website or the confirmations I got for the Cyber Monday deals I booked. Anyone else heard anything?

I'm working on booking stuff for the last week in January, and if I'm not mistaken EVERYWHERE that I looked is charging a resort fee. Cosmo, Aria, Monte Carlo, MGM Grand, Pallazzo, etc...at this point they might as well just include it in the rate.

Screw that....no way to get it removed if it's included.

The places mentioned above are MGM Mirage properties. Try Harrahs properties as they (from what I recall) don't have resort fees).

Point well taken. Although I've never successfully had them removed either. But there's always a shot I guess!

I've only had it removed if they start it after you booked like a lot of people who booked Cosmo yesterday.

Just went through booking on Cosmos site and there is no warning about resort fees. You could probably get these removed if you book now, if this turns out to be true.

I am shocked they didnt do it sooner so I am not surprised at all. Pallazzo does too?

“I’ve been playing around in that (resort fee) arena for 15 years,” veteran hotelier and Cosmopolitan CEO John Unwin said in a recent interview. Though hotels often tack on resort fees to offset plummeting hotel rates, “we’re not doing that because people don’t like it,” Unwin said.
