  • Help figure out the room

Ok here's the deal. 2 guys, requirement is two separate beds (one can have bed, one can have pull out couch). We've stayed at Venitian (loved it), Flamingo (sucked but was $8/night), and Palms (1 bedroom, awesome). The upcoming trip is either 3 or 4 nights flying in Thursday, flying out either Sunday night or monday morning.

We are wanting to stay on strip this time, loved the palms, but it was a bit far from everything. Budget is $750 for 3 nights or $1,000 for four nights. We fall into the 25-35 demo and prefer this crowd.

So suggestions for where to stay and what type (or types) of rooms to get (could even be two individual rooms that connect type thing).

On a side note, I wish our budget was more cause I would have so stayed at the Sky Lofts at MGM

I think cosmo 1 bedroom with pull out couch would be your best bet, or a two bed terrace studio, not sure what kind of privacy you guys need. Either way, depending on your dates, should be easily under budget.

oh you'll have lots of options in your price range then. I'm in your age range and Aria or Mirage are my go to places.
I've been a big fan of Mirage for a long time, however, Aria blew me away last time I stayed there. So I'm hitting Aria again
in Sept. If it's as good as last time, then that'll be my staple.

Chuck, when you stay at Aria do you commit to their restaurants and their casino floor?

The restaurants are awesome...and if you gambled all but $2 of your money away you can head down the escalators to the food court in Monte Carlo and grab some McD's. The casino took a little getting used to. It's more modern and chic, not as high energy as Mirage, but still a good time with good drink service. Table limits are more on par with Bellagio...you won't find a $10 table on a Friday or Saturday night...I think $15 is the lowest minimum as I recall. The setup is great for people watching also from the central bar...especially after Haze closes

How is the sportsbook? I am looking to change up hotels next stay and it is nothing against Mirage cuz I like you, love the place, but looking for a new place to explore. New restaurants, bars, lounges, casino floor. The two front runners are MGM and Aria. MGM location is the only thing slowing me down for there and Aria's proximity to being on the strip in 2 mins is holding me back( guy in my group has a hip problem so his daily walking is limited). As for the McD's comment, been in that situation so it is actually is important to have access to meals that dont cost 30+ bucks.

The Sports Book is awesome IMO and it's right next to the sports bar that has killer food.

The buffet is great and between the Skybox sports bar, Union Restaurant, and Cafe Vettro there are plenty of less expensive food options...not to mention the buffet. Oh and there's a nice cafe out by the pool also.

Are these just the basic rooms or the suites? Looking at Aria's website there's a lot to chose from. Not sure if the suites have pull out couches or not.

Ideally there would be some privacy cause the goal is to get my buddy to hook up (I'm married, he's single). Last time when we stayed at the Palms we had a 1BR suite and the master had a tub in the room. The goal then was to get naked girls in that tub for him, though he drank himself stupid each night and barely made it to the room.

I stayed in a tower suite last year...didn't check the couch for a pull-out, but did have a snooze on it with no problem.

Any specific site to get a discount on these rooms? I know from past experiences, booking direct through the hotel's website isn't always the cheapest.

It's definitely a good place to start. Try third party sites like kayak/expedia/travelocity to gauge prices and see if it's cheaper. Try to avoid Priceline just because they're not the most lenient on refunds and guarantee of room types.

Also, try calling the hotel directly but don't say anything like "I saw it cheaper on cheaphotelseverynight.com". Just be nice and friendly and see if the reservations agent can put in a discount for you. For your dates and your price range, it should be really simple to get some nice rooms.

I'd recommend Cosmo, Venetian, Palazzo, Mirage or even Planet Hollywood.

Oh don't worry I'll drink it. But you better know that when I do, we about to get buck!

MGM and Monte Carlo are good spots with fast food inside so you can get some cheap eats. I don't like spending a lot of the room, barely spend any time there. Figure out what is important, pool, table minimums etc and pick off of that.

Always call the hotel and ask for the "Lowest available rate"....not the "Best available rate"....believe it or not, asking that question properly yields different results. The "Lowest available rate" may have cancellation fee's associated with it or other "fences", but will be the cheapest. Often, if you pay 100% up front you will get the "Lowest available rate", but will probably incur fees for cancelling.
I always ask if I pay 100% up front when booking if a lower rate is available than what I've been quoted.
