  • Ny Ny or Mgm?

Hi all, going to vegas in a couple of weeks and I already booked a room at ny ny. I see that the rates are pretty much the same for mgm, so I'm wondering which one I should stay at. It's 3 girls. The mgm room is a lot bigger, but there's only one bed but I'm assuming the "designer" couch folds out? It doesn't really matter since we won't be in the room that much but just wanted to see what people's preferences are. I looked up both on trip advisor and hotels.com, and ny is higher rated, and some reviews for mgm posted pics with blood on the sheets! That confirmed my decision but I see there are these "new" rooms there now so I'm not sure if it's any different. Thanks!

Not the biggest fan of NY NY rooms but they're relatively cheap. I really do prefer the MGM rooms over NY NY with no contest but I haven't stayed at the NY NY personally, just visited some friends that were staying there.
    Venetian/Palazzo/IP/Cosmo/Mirage

    My hotels of choice.

Oh don't worry I'll drink it. But you better know that when I do, we about to get buck!

the renovated rooms at the MGM are nice. the couch was a pull out if I remember correctly. as long as you can get a renovated room that isn't in the west wing, go for MGM. It's a huge hotel with a lot of rooms so there is a good chance for an upgrade or getting a room with two beds at check in.

When I looked online it says new tower spa suite, is that one of the renovated rooms or do I have to specifically request it? Same question for the west wing, what's wrong with it and do I have to request ahead of time to stay in a diff wing?

Yep - as long as it says "NEW" in the room you're booking, it should be one of the renovated ones. I think they should almost be done (if not all done) with all of them at this point. I believe they were half way done renovating when I stayed there back in May. Suites have plenty of space for 3.

As for the West Wing, I didn't stay in a room there but the word is that the rooms are smaller and feel more closed in. I did walk through the hallway down the wing which did feel really dark and closed in so if that's any indications of the rooms, I'd definitely prefer the main building. If you're getting a suite I'm pretty sure they are all main tower. Doesn't hurt to call after you book just to double check.

The west wing is pretty dark and smaller than the main hotel rooms. However, they were significantly better than the old rooms.

So your decision is based on the rooms only? Not casino, bars, restaurant, show, shopping?

                    What dates are you going?

Have you thought about the Aria promo?

                    https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/b...E&kbid=3930103

You can book 1 night per person and then combine them when you check in for $50 or $100 resort credit/day.

No not necessarily, just trying to pick a hotel that's affordable but nice as well. I do want to stay somewhere with a good casino, but figured you can go anywhere to eat/drink? Also, ny has a $50 dining/drink credit and mgm doesn't so I figured that was good. But yeah, I know nothing about vegas lol.

As long as you're willing to hike for 15min, lots of casinos, bars, restaurants, shows and shopping are on the strip and both of those hotels are on the strip. MGM's downfall is the fact that it's so far down on the strip. Depending on how many days you go for, spending half a day just sight seeing and getting a feel for what you like is definitely worth it. Every casino has a different type of crowd and the "cheaper" hotels usually have lower table minimums. Restaurants are EVERYWHERE and there's so much to choose from (Personal favorite is Korean food so I like Ginseng 3 in Imperial Palace because they're open 24 hours).

Yeah I heard those two hotels are right next to each other, but those are basically the only ones in our price range and still a 4 star hotel. I know there's hard rock too but isn't that far as well? I also live 5 mins from a hard rock so wanted to stay somewhere different. I'm not planning on playing at any tables, just slots but my friends might want to. I'd definitely want to go to the bellagio and the welcome to Vegas sign and all the other touristy stuff, but mostly go out at night. I know we won't be in the room that much so I thought either hotel would be fine, but since you all are saying MGM hands down, maybe I'll switch it.

Well for your case, any hotel would be fine. I spend most of my time in a room just to power nap and get ready for the next day so if that's what you're planning to do then just stick with NY NY. Unless you found some sweet deal at MGM that can't be turned down and you don't have to worry about losing a deposit or anything.

Power nap is clutch, but the promo code I found for mgm doesn't work anymore so I guess I'm sticking with ny. Unless I find something else in the next 4 days, but I doubt it. Oh well! Excited to just get there already!
