THEhotel is going away

Word is from an email I received today that MGM and Morgans have formed a partnership that will directly affect the future of THEhotel. THEhotel will become Delano Las Vegas. The transformation will begin in July 2013 and complete in Spring 2014. Part of the transformation is to include new restaurants and a "revolutionary nightlife concept". Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I seen this. It seems Light group is heading up several restaurants, lounges, and a nightclub. I think it is awesome and hopefully revitalizes this area of the strip.

Interesting, being the Vegas geek that I am I remember the stalled Echelon project was originally supposed to house the "Delano Las Vegas," but seeing as how Boyd gaming is content to let the skeleton rot until its only useful as scrap metal and concrete, Delano made another deal, interesting.

i really liked THE Hotel, it was may favorite till the Cosmo opened up.

I liked MIX the restraunt, the club....not so much, but the did have a great view.

The Penthouse suites were awesome....what a great view !

i really liked the smell of THE Hotel too !

I've always liked the way the TheHOTEL rooms looked but they are just way too far away from the anything. It's odd to me but the North Side seems to be closer to the action than the South side.

I couldnt agree more. Loved THEHotel but it does seem to be a wee bit to far. To me the North>South. To bad though, but it seems like the Delano will be legit from what I've been reading.

I stayed at THEhotel once a while ago (back when Ed Hardy shirts were still cool). The rooms were awesome, check-in sucked bad, but that happens. We enjoyed MIX as well. Other than that it didn't seem to have a whole lot to offer...and that was pre City Center, Encore, Palazzo, etc. Didn't help that it was also one of the absolute WORST trips as far as gambling goes! Still makes me gag a little thinking about it. That said, I'm excited to see what the South Side puts together over the next couple years. Will have to be pretty amazing though for me to give up my 50 yard line seats at the center strip properties though.

Personally I enjoy staying at Mandalay Bay/The Hotel as long as I have a strip view room facing North.

I dont mind paying cab fare to go around town as I am on vacation anyway when in town.


As for the whole Boyd Gaming and Echelon thing that was mentioned above can someone elaborate? Boyd Gaming seems to be expanding across the country and building in my area but as a company what is their history in Vegas? Does it have anything to do with the whole Fountainbleu debacle going on in Vegas?

last i recall, mandalay still has the dealer stand on soft 17...hope that's still the case!
