Convention question..

A quick question for anyone who has knowledge on hotel pricing when it comes to conventions.

My buddies and I are planning an early August trip and are looking at the Venetian/ Palazzo for possible accommodations. I checked the convention calender and saw that the Venetian is hosting one with the projection of 17,000 people the second day we will be there. I realize that not all of the people will be staying at the Venetian property but I imagine it will come down to convenience for a lot.

Anyways, will this end up affecting the rates??

Yes, vastly. Check out the Venetian rate calendar online and watch how much more expensive it is during that week than the week before or after.

OK, that's what I figured. Yea, I have checked but they don't have rates that far in advance yet. I can always call them. Thanks

Similar situation with our January trip .... three big conventions overlap so rates were jumping waaaay up.... I booked like 7 months ahead of time and was able to get the "current" rate, if I was to re-book today that rate would be over double

Early Aug 2011 is pretty far. We did 4 last minute trips to Vegas July/Aug. Pretty much booked 2hrs before we got there while driving to Vegas. We were able to get decent rooms in other hotels. If you're set on V/P, then book early, but if you're open to other places, you dont have to book so early.

Regardless, you can always cancel the reservations anyway 72hrs before if you decide to go stay somewhere else.

For sure. I'm decently seasoned when it comes to finding good rates. I will always be looking for other spots but the V/P is so convenient when working with a group of 6..and its in the North which we like...
