I was looking at the 3br and it looked like it had some great views of the strip.
I was looking at a 3 bedroom one until a few of our people dropped out.

I booked from the "LAS VEGAS TOURIST BUREAU" ... super easy to deal with, made plenty of arrangements (getting us an extra roll-away in-case people needed alone time).

Honestly in Vegas how often do you spend in your room/hotel? usually sleeping and walking to the next place so for us it was a no-brainer.

When I go I usually eat all over the place so having a hotel with lot of options wasn't an issue. Having the full kitchen is AWESOME too. Keep tons of booze/beer cold on the fridge, can actually bring leftovers "home" and eat them as drunk munchies.... and sometimes a really bad hangover means you're not leaving the room, so having food there is great.

Gambling - I usually hit up Bills, O'Sheas, and Bellagio for their sports book, so its nice and close to all those.

Nightlife, sure it doesn't have a club/bars on site but you have one of the best pre-game rooms in Vegas and everything is reaaally close.

That is where we are staying again for my upcoming January trip.

anyone ever stay at Vdara? I was always curious about that place... Modestly priced compared to other suites in the area, elegant looking rooms, in the heart of the strip, etc.

We always stay at the Rio as it's free. We just make sure to gamble a couple grand during our stay, and the next time we want to come to vegas, *POOF* comped. Harrahs seems to be very liberal to us with comped stays. And, you can use the harrahs comps at any harrahs locations, including Imperial Palace.

If you are going to gamble anyway you may as well get some comps for it =)

I've stayed at IP, Flamingo, Bally's & Caesars in center strip. I thought the best value was Flamingo. Best combo of cheap, decent rooms, location, etc. For cheapest place to lay your head for 2 hours a night (or day)...IP. IP is a little run down and the elevators suck ass but it is cheap.

Same advice as above...just gamble a little with your Total Rewards card and free nights are around the corner. Stayed 4 nights free at Flamingo a year ago and spent $65 for 5 nights at IP during May Invasion.

              Good luck...have a great time!

To further upon gambling a little for free nights, I've noticed better discounts/comps when larger amounts are put through slots machines over a short period of time. I read somewhere that the gambling rate plays a role.

On the other hand, gambling to hope for discounts can be counterproductive if you lose more than the rooms cost.

Regardless, I'd also suggest IP if it's a just a place to sleep/shower with a solid location.

Your point status and how you get comps is based on Average daily play. The length of time also matters on how you are rated.

There is a term called Coin-In on slots where how much amount is played and goes into the game. If you put in $100 and that lasts you lets say 2 hours. Youre going up and down throughout those 2 hours and have possibly put in about $1000 coin-in.

The Coin-in will reflect how much points you get on your Casino players card and thats how you are rated.

I'll be heading there Jan 26 - 29th from Boston. Would love to know your favorite recommendations for cheap skates...save the money on your room and spend it on booze!! Ideal near strip/walking distance or short cab. Has anyone done hotels on Freemont?
This is a great topic but the real answer requires some questions being answered first:

What is your overall budget and expectation?
What part of Boston are you from?
Do you gamble or will you be gambling?

Staying in downtown to save $20 a night isn't going to help if you want to hit City Center or the "new" strip spots every day. Cabs will kill you all weekend.

You could book a hotel room for one night, then with comps you may end up figuring out an even better place to stay & for free depending on your play.

My opinion - reach out closer to 2-3 weeks before you come out. Know what you want to achieve (places to chill at night etc.) and then book the room.

I've done the IP for a weekend. If you don't intend on sleeping (which you shouldnt, its Vegas) then its fine.

Its obviously ghetto, but good enough for showers and 8 hours sleep total in a trip

I agree about IP. It's fine, but you're not going to remember anything special about the room after you leave (but you're probably not going to remember anything about much of your stay anyway! )

I still love downtown- a great place to party and hang and the rooms are very cheap! Oh, and the gambling is better- slots pay better and the table games have better rules at many of the casinos and we've had more fun, met more people and gotten crazier downtown every trip. Remember, someone is paying for those billion dollar casinos and, guess who it is?

No, downtown doesn't have the super clubs on the strip, but we don't go to them anyway- so, like an earlier poster said- it depends on what you want to do.
