DJ sets in Vegas by Elite DJs

Why so short?
These DJs (Guetta, CH, Tiesto and so on) make huge bucks. I am curious if they want to do such short sets or the club(which I would not understand since they are paying good money) I also wouldn't understand a great DJ not wanting to play more then 2-3 hours.

The last 5 years I have been going to vegas, I notice this. I guess it's because I am use to NYC where DJs when I use to go out regular (17-25) would play marathon sets, but at the very least, 6 hours......It's about building it up. With that said, it is not like I am ever disappointed because Vegas atmoshere is just at a different level and this point of my life I am more into the overall scene, than music (as what I was when I was younger) I was just curious who's making this call? (DJ or club)

I also notice guys like CH and D Guetta sets, almost always sound the same(again, not that it bothers me, I enjoy it) but these guys are always top 10 DJs in the world (DJ Mag) and I am just confused why guys i remember in my younger clubbing days, never getting this much hype(D Tenaglia, E Morillo, D Howells, Deep Dish, Sasha-Digweed and so on) just seem to bring it more, but just nowhere near as popular.

The standard Vegas crowd doesn't have the patience for anything longer than a two-hour set. It's get on stage, run through the hits, get off stage. That's all most people want.

Also, a lot of these DJs are just producers moonlighting as DJs. They couldn't put together a 5-hour set even if they tried.

Makes sense and def agree with them being more so producers, but yet they get the label through the the rankings as elite status DJs

Morillo is over at LiFE at SLS on a regular basis, but I kind of doubt he does a set longer than 2-3 hours.

I mostly guest list, which if done smartly involves showing up close to when the club opens, usually 10-11pm. When you show up right at opening you've got the opening DJ for 2-3 hours, the headliner comes out by 1-2am, and they are usually off by 3-4am, leaving the post-headliner DJ.

I'm not staying passed 4am, it's already hard enough to eat and sleep enough, and losing more time into the night is the exact opposite of what I want. So the only option would be to have the headliners start earlier. This has problems for those who like showing up to the club later at night and the opening DJ portion of the night is where locals and up and comers get a chance to get noticed. I also assume Guetta would want significantly more for a 4 hour set than a 2 hour set, so it helps control costs.

From what I've seen, most club goers might appreciate a slightly earlier headliner set, but I don't really see a bunch of people wanting a much longer one.

I have seen Kaskade do a 9 hour set in vegas and Steve Angello do 6 or 7
Kaskade was advertised as an 8 hour.

A lot of the festival slots- Ultra, coachella, lolla are 1 hour or 1.5 hour.

Morillo used to do marathon sets at Tao every Labor day and Memorial day weekend. Tao group is the only nightlife group in Vegas I've seen allow a marathon set on anything close to a regular basis.

I don't think I've spent that much time in any one club. But I do get it, plus the whole "producers moonlighting as DJ's"! Putting an awesome set together, reading the crowd, and keeping it going is a dying art

Vegas is basically a new crowd every weekend and when they come to the club and CH, Tiesto, etc is performing, they want to hear their music. Now add the fact the headliner wants to play as many of their songs, remixes, etc in the 1-2 hour set, it will sound repetitive if you see them multiple times. Now add to it some of these guys may do a club one night and the mega pool at the same property earlier that day or the next day. Talk about repetitive.

From the DJ perspective, yes it's only 2 hours, but the resident dj's have to do this twice a weekend. If they did sets for 4-6 hrs, that would be a lot every weekend. tough to keep the energy up for that long all the time and that would affect the performance.
