  • DJ Reviews -=- Post yours here -=-

There a lot of great stuff on this site, but the one thing I haven't caught is user reviews on the DJ's they have seen. A lot of action about the clubs and atmosphere, but I do think there is a lot that goes into who is playing and what the party is about. I've been to the same clubs numerous times and there is a different vibe depending on the DJ. Here's some recent ones I've been to (i'll leave out reviews older than a year). Please add yours to help others make judgement on what they're looking for.

    Artist:
    Location:
    Rating:
    Special info:

    Artist: Steve Aoki
    Location: Hakkasan
    Rating: 8.5
Special info: Good vibes. Set seemed a little short, came on at 1, was out around 2. Didn't play all of his hits, stopped tracks a bunch to actually speak. Classic Cake toss and boat. Did have a lot of crow interaction and dancing on his part. Worth seeing again.

    Artist: Tiesto
    Location: Hakkasan
    Rating: 7.0
Special info:This actually disappointed me coming from a person that likes Tiesto. His set was very uneven and a lot of trance going on. Not really a good jump around and get crazy event. None the less he did put on a good show, just probably wouldn't spend money on it again.

    Artist: Eva Shaw
    Location: Hakkasan
    Rating: 6.5
Special info:New comer to the scene, she does a good job but you can tell she has none of her own material and kind of goes off the wings of others music. Give her a couple more years and she'll be up there, just not yet.

Artist: Bingo Players (pre Paul death)
    Location: Hakkasan
    Rating: 8.3
Special info:Real good set, played all their big named stuff. Nothing real special though

    Artist: Deadmau5
    Location: XS
    Rating: 9.1
Special info:Granted you do have to be into his music to get it, but killed it. Nothing more I can really say about that.

    Artist: Danny Avila
    Location: Wet
    Rating: 8.1
Special info: Slow builds, good set, just not much there.

    Artist: Krewella
    Location: Light
    Rating: 8.9
Special info:I thought when they switched to just the girls their set would suck, but they have a lot of energy and play some pretty known stuff. would see again.

    Artist: Steve Powers
    Location: Light
    Rating: 6.0
Special info:Probably the worst one I've seen so far. He has no energy, mixes his tracks uneven, and just is scattered with his music. Would not recommend.

    Artist: Stafford Brothers
    Location: Light
    Rating: 9.8
Special info:This is the biggest shocker. These two throw the best party I've been to. They both have so much energy, kangaroos flying through the crowd. They get off the stage (or on top of the booth) and pour shots into peoples mouth. Plus there is actually singing from one of them. Good mix of EDM, EDM with Rap and just a great party. Would hiiighhhly recommend seeing them for not being that well known.

    Artist: Steve Angello
    Location: LIFE
    Rating: 8
Special info: Saw him for his opening debut. He just sits up there at the decks like the rest of the big names. Doesn't move around much but looks very serious. I do like his music and he always plays tracks that really get blood pumping. Harder EDM. Lot's of "Let's fucking party" liners.

    Artist: Alesso
    Location: LIGHT
    Rating: 9
Special Info: Saw him on New Years day '14 and in march again. Good show. Doesn't get too crazy with the movement but I love his intros and he always plays a good mix of everything that would be considered top shelf. Good vocals, up beat and drops similar "Let's fucking party" liners.

    Artist: Sebastian Ingrosso
    Location: LIGHT
    Rating: 8
Special Info: Packed the house in March. Played a great set but very similar to Alesso/Steve Angello. Energy isn't as much there but the music is on point and what you would expect from someone selling out shows.

    Artist: Wolfgang Gartner
    Location: XS
    Rating: 9.5
Special Info: Probably the only DJ I've ever seen that not only talks a lot on his social media but sweats during his sets from how intense his transitions are. This guy is great to see live and the energy is addicting. Terrific vibes and I love aerobic workout sets.

    Artist: Avicii
    Location: XS
    Rating: 6
Special Info: Presses play and does hand movements the entire time. Only big plus is that he pulls all the girls out to see him.

    Artist: Diplo
    Location: XS
    Rating: 9.5
Special Info: Good party. Cool guy. Get's all the girls out that like to shake their ass. Since they are primarily shaking their ass, they don't like it if you move so standing still while an ass rubs all against you seems to be the only thing you can do. Which is the only thing I ever want to do anymore. Win

      Artist: Jack u (skrillex diplo)
      Location:XS
      Rating:10
Special info: Hands down best party in vegas I've been to. The energy in the place was absolutely bonkers. everyone was going wild and skrillex and diplo just get the crowd absolutely wild. girls tweaking on stage, strippers, champagne spraying the whole 9 yards. highly recommend next time they do XS.

      Artist: Avicii
      Location:Encore Beach
      Rating:5
Special info: really boring. as mentioned above. hits play and moves his hand around. The overall vibe was actually really boring. was hoping for much more and was just disappointed.

      Artist: Bauerr
      Location: Light
      Rating:9
      Special info:
had the crowd pumped from beginning to end. the red solo cups and high tops were awesome and the whole crowd was super into it. played a really good mix of EDM, trap, and straight hip hop. Really fun party and great DJ.

      Artist: Major Lazor
      Location: Encore Beach
      Rating:9
      Special info:
Played a ton of awesome hits mixed in with trap and EDM. diplo gets wild and has the crowd super into it the whole set. This was one of my favorite day parties I've been to and the whole place ws going off. even people waiting for the bathrooms and bars were getting down haha.

      Artist: Kaskade
      Location: Marquee dayclub
      Rating:8.5
      Special info:
Great set. played all classic Kaskade songs plus some special releases which are now big hits. If your into his style, definitely recommend it. He gets the crowd going and splashing while all kinds of inflatable zebras and stuff fly around the pool and crowd. Didn't really see how much he was moving around cuz the pool was going off!

I'll put mine into groups... to help
          Hip Hop mainly
The best - Bauer, A- Trak by far.. no one else even close ( I put A-Trak here because he actually does old skool skratching and DJ contest type skills Overrated- DJ Mustard, DJ Snake, awful when I saw em.. Underrated- Lil Jon, I really think people sleep on him, he actually is very entertaining with smooth sets.

          Trap/Hip Hop/ Taste of EDM
The Best - Diplo/Major Lazer, Salva, RL Grime (Clockwork alter ego) , ATrak Overrated - I used to like Carnage, last few sets were gobbage.. Underrated- GTA, I highly highly suggest you see them. They did alllllll Trap, like 2-3 hours , the twerking was insane... Another underated is MSTKRFT, & Tony Arizadon or whatever his name is, that dude is actually pretty sick and no one knows. Me and Noah were discussing him one night at Light.. crazy how he is slept on.

          House EDM
Best - Tommy Trash, Krewella, Skrillex, Alesso, Hardwell, Kaskade, Overrated - Calvin Harris, Aoki, Angello, Romero,

This is off the top of my head, I'll add to it.

            Artist: Steve Aoki
            Location: Wet Republic
            Rating: 9
Special info: He came on about 330pm and left about 530pm. Played a wide variety of edm/trap/hiphop. He threw a house party and even brought out MGK. Of course he took out the cakes, champagne, and raft for the crowd. IMO he's very entertaining. I dig some of his music. Drinks were strong and everyone had a great vibe. I would love to see him again in the pool party environment. Not sure about a club.

            Artist: W&W

            Rating: 7
Special info: I listened to their Ultra and EDC 2014 sets before I saw them and I was expecting something big. But it was nearly the same mix of songs so I already knew what to expect. I wish they could've surprised with some other songs if you know what i mean. I enjoy listening to their soundcloud mixes but if they were in Vegas the same time I was next time, I'd go see someone else, unlike Aoki above.

              Artist: Steve Aoki/Lil Jon
              Location: EBC
              Rating: 6
Special info: Was my first "real" time in Vegas like 5 years ago. Thought it was the best party I've ever been to, but had more to do with the "extra level" of Vegas and EBC than the DJs. In retrospect, they put on a good party but were middle-of-the-road for good acts.

              Artist: Tommy Trash
              Location: XS
              Rating: 9
Special info: Tommy Trash puts on a hell of a party. Definitely recommend, and XS only made it better. It was St. Patrick's Day and the whole place was bumping.

              Artist: Dyro
              Location: Light
              Rating: 6
Special info: Good, but nothing special. High energy and good tunes, but really nothing memorable (aside from Light itself, which is an awesome venue)

              Artist: Manufactured Superstars
              Location: XS
              Rating: 7
Special info: Nightswim, which gives an automatic boost to the energy but also takes a bit of finesse to throw a good set. These guys did a good job keeping the crowd into it and playing high energy tunes. Would go again, but wouldn't go out of my way.

              Artist: DJ Que
              Location: 1OAK
              Rating: 9
Special info: Both times I saw Que were Tuesdays. 1OAK is a cool venue, but I think DJ Que really works the space. Awesome mix of hip hop and EDM and REALLY got the party going. Will continue seeing him when I get the chance.

              Artist: Diplo
              Location: XS
              Rating: 9
Special info: Mad Decent Monday at XS. One hell of a party. Diplo has been, and will continue to be, one of my favorite DJs for a good party. He's a must if you get a chance.

              Artist: Baauer
              Location: Light
              Rating: 10
Special info: Light gives a boost to artists like Baauer. But my god, that show was amazing. Beats, dancing, girls loving it, and amazing mixing skills. When picking future Vegas dates, I'll actively look for when Baauer will be on so I can go again.

              Artist: Gabriel and Dresden
Location: Hooters Booze Cruise (Spring Awakening after party in Chicago)
              Rating: 7
Special info: I like their music, but they were pretty boring. Did a decent job with the space they had (on a cruise boat) but I was hoping for more.

              Artist: Krewella
              Location: Spring Awakening Music Festival
              Rating: 9
Special info: Pre-Rain Man departure. Had no idea who these guys were (summer 2012) and they blew me away. SUPER high energy, great tunes, great flow. I'd like to see them again and see if they are still good, but man that new "Say Goodbye" song blows.

              Artist: 3lau
              Location: Spring Awakening
              Rating: 8
Special info: Great mashups, great party. I'd like to see him at a club at some point.

              Artist: Benny Bennassi
              Location: Spring Awakening
              Rating: 8
Special info: His equipment broke down after 35 minutes so it was a super short set. What he did play was great though, and I'd go see him again with a longer set.

              Artist: Warren Peace
              Location: XS
              Rating: 8
Special info: Resident DJ, does a lot of opening sets at XS. He's a great opening/closing DJ, really solid, diverse sets. Part of the reason I like XS so much.

                  Artist: David Guetta
                  Location:XS
                  Rating:6.5
Special info: As others have said, he was pretty boring. I like a lot of his music, but he basically waved his arms a lot and pushed play. Even the "Titanium" remix he played was an Alesso remix that can be found on Spotify. He does draw a great crowd, bonus points for that.

                  Artist: Krewella
                  Location: Eclipse
                  Rating: 8.5
Special info: Crazy energy, I was exhausted just watching them. Played a great mix of their hits, mixed some other classics in, and played a really smooth set. Would see again.

                  Artist: Calvin Harris
                  Location: Hakkasan
                  Rating: 7
Special info: He has so many radio hits to squeeze in I felt like I was listening to the local pop station. I am not faulting him for that, its a great problem to have. Everyone sang along which was great and he played along by dropping the volume at all the right times. I just didn't think he was anything special, didn't seem to interact a lot or be doing much in the booth. HUGE crowd.

                  Artist: Zedd
                  Location: XS
                  Rating: 9
Special info: Thought he was great, played all his hits, had some really great mash-ups, and looked like he was having a blast in the booth. Had some really solid transitions and I thought the perfect mix of music. Outstanding crowd, everyone seemed into his set, and would definitely see again.

                  Artist: Lil Jon
                  Location: XS
                  Rating: 8.5
Special info: Was glad to see his name mentioned by Kaz in this thread as underrated. We didn't intend to go see him when we were out there, (I hadn't heard much about his sets before we got out there) we just got bored at the first club we went in that night and decided to switch things up. I wasn't expecting much, and expected almost all hip hop, but he did a great job of mixing hip hop and EDM. He interacted with the crowd a ton, sang some of his hits, mixed in champagne showers, and really was thoroughly entertaining. Had a smaller crowd (it was Sunday and XS is huge), but well worth checking out.

Special info: Energy was off the charts. Do a good job of playing different genres and mix it brilliantly & seamlessly. By far my favorite dj(s) to see live. Know how to control the crowd & love that they're throwing back shots while doing their set.

Special info: Spectacular mashups along with his radio play hits to sing along to. Never thought I'd hear Blink 182 get dropped in an EDM set.

                    Rating: 8
Special info: Man is a party animal, great music & impossible to not get into the music when he's jumping around with his crazy hair.

                    Rating: 7.5

                    Rating: N/A
Special info: Was blackout by time they came on, but more recently it looks like their sets have become more crazier with inflatable kangaroos & other antics in the club.

Special Info: Easiest to describe by their motto: death to genres. A blend of anything & everything mixed with a good dosage of trap & hip hop.

                    Rating:7

I've been to Calvin twice at Hak and had same table both times. Level of talent is insane as he really seems to pull in all the hot girls - literally no room to breathe without a table and took me a good 10 mins to make it to bathroom. Quite surprised at earlier comments as I thought he killed it - great mix of his popular tunes (guess it helps to be a fan of his and like his music) as well as some remixes. Had a wild time and he played a full 2 hour set.

Wild time again, but thought XS was actually TOO busy (never thought I would actually say that). He was excellent though and really kept the crowd going.

Honestly Calvin probably gets rated on a tougher scale than others. He is such a big star and draws such a crowd, people go in expecting him to blow the roof off the place. He doesn't do a bad show, and I had a good time. Comparatively I went into Lil Jon with no expectations and was surprised, which probably is what led to a higher rating from me.

Any room here for the locals like Mike Attack, Eric DLux, Presto One, Chris Garcia, Fabian Arche etc? As for big names; I've only seen Little Jon and was also impressed by his mashup!

May not have been his normal set, but Mike Attack played at STK when we were there a few months ago. My wife loved him, played a mix of '90s music through present, mostly pop mashups, but had half the restaurant up and dancing between courses. We went back to STK on our more recent trip just because my wife was hoping to catch him again.

I'd like to add that Mark Eteson plays amazing opening and closing sets at Hakkasan. He is about half the reason I don't mind hitting up Hakkasan on a slower night
