  • Host vs Hotel

I've never worked directly with the hotel to get a table as I've always used a host. I have a group of guys going to Vegas in February for my bachelor party and they're pretty much only going to the club because I want to, so I'm trying to keep the price as low as possible but not end up at LAX. Anybody have any insight on working directly with the hotel to get a table?

I'm sure the hosts can get better locations, but if you're not too worried about prime seating is it better to just go with the hotel and save on the host tip? I've already told my best man the price range including a host tip, but it wouldn't hurt to save a little if possible.

Regardless, you're going to get referred to a random host from the hotel anyways.

Not just for table locations...but it's better to work with an established contact who can get you lower minimum, b1g1, b2g1, etc.

And if the going-rate isn't what you're looking for, they can always negotiate and work with you to make something happen.
    Next trip: ???

What weekend are you there for?

DJ lineups will inflate or deflate prices
Conventions will inflate or deflate prices

Valentines day weekend is the cheapest the entire month.

      What is your current budget?
      # of guys?
      Preferred music?
Any other big plans that would be better on a friday or saturday?

That's my usual thought process...deals and making sure I've dealt with somebody that can make sure I can keep my table all night.

2/5-2/8...I haven't seen anything special going on that weekend.

7 guys with a budget of about $250. Hoping for a 2 bottle min b2g1 somewhere like Drai's or Life...don't think LIGHT, XS, or Hakkasan will be in that range.

Only big plans ATM are steak dinner and club night. Everything else will be a little on the fly. Might check out Brad Garret's Comedy Club on Thursday...that'll keep me from dumping money into a slot machine to pass time!

So far nothing big is scheduled for that weekend.

$250 a guy will total $1750 which will be pretty much enough to get you 2b min for sure at Drais or Life. Life might push that $1750 just a bit with the 40.1% tax and with tips but you should be fine.

I would go to LIFE over Drais as the layout at LIFE is better if you're not dropping a lot of money on tier1/dance floor.

You will have that extra 12% tax but since the club is just a giant open room you will have a good view of DJ/LED/entire place.

If you talk to Noah and pull the bachelor party card you can probably get a b2g1 as it will be winter months and a slow weekend (convention wise). Bottles are $550 a pop there and 7 guys shouldn't have a problem with a 1k min. You will probably need to handshake around $250-300 to secure that min and a location.

On a Saturday you could swing LIGHT for that too. LIFE also somewhat mirrored LIGHT's setup so it could come down to DJ preference. (If you're staying at MGM LIFE is easier. Maybe not Hak and XS would require a bigger shake putting you around $2k maybe.

Shoot Noah Ortiz a message with the following info:

          Guys: 7
          Min: 1k ($1800 budget)
          Club: LIFE, LIGHT or DRAIS
          Shake: 300
Add in it's your bachelor party and looking to get a b2g1 deal if possible

Show up at 10:30 PM and everything should fall into place.

i'll chime in here cause I've used both. I have my own casino host that usually arranges everything for me from show, dinner, drivers and clubs. I've never had an issue with him at all as he always gives me what I need. So this year I decided to change it up a bit and hit up Noah this time around. Here's the main benefit that I get, I have a direct contact with someone at the club, or that knows the people at the club I'm going to to make sure I'm taking care of. That's not to say that my casino host wouldn't, but he also isn't there at 2am to back me up if I need it, where as Noah was. Sure, cost me a little bit more, but do you want to have a good time, or an epic time?

Is there a difference in the tax & tips at Drais vs Life? I assume 40% at each or is one less than the other?

Tip is pretty much the same all around (Tier 2 you can get away with less) except for sometimes XS on big Saturdays. There is sometimes an unspoken rule that throwing $500 is mandatory to getting a decent placement.

                Drais 28.1%
                Life 40.1%

Although personally I would take the Drais floating disco ball thing over all the dancing people at LIFE lol

Thanks for the input. Exactly what I was looking to hear. Makes sense to have somebody available to make sure your night is going to be as good or better than planned.

                    Tax: 8.1%
state tax and a 10% live entertainment state tax will be applied to your bill.
Gratuity on Table Service: 18% gratuity
                    table service fee 4%

                    40.1%

Life follows the same model although I really don't think they need any dancers. I hardly noticed them.

At least at LIGHT they are running along walls and propelling from ceilings

They add on that special 4% for "table service charge"

Hak does it too but keeps the gratuity at 18% instead of 20% to bring theirs to 40% instead of 42%

I really wish the government would get their stupid faces out of my good times. Eventually all the math that we use to justify bottle prices is gonna fly out of the window and we're gonna be left with "If you REALLY hate waiting in lines, maybe it's worth $5K for a couple bottles."
