You make the reservation through a host. You pay your bill at the table, the waitress will have your receipt and yeah you can pay cash.

Wish i knew more about your phone question i know mostly everyone from that comes from oversees have a US phone with a US number or they simply use whatsapp to message people from their phones.

Probably easier to buy a burner at the airport for the weekend if you don't have an international plan.

I am coming over and buying this one before I go. http://www.usaprepaidsimcard.com.au/

I chewed up heaps of data on my last trip. Going to basically forward my calls from my Aus phone to this one. 2.5 gb of data its pretty compelling

That sim card could be a lot more useful given people now mostly communicate with web based apps.

Just make sure you don't need to go through a few complicated steps just to send a text or make a call as I had to do with my international sim. I gave up and swallowed the roaming charges (worst part was others calling you was also more complicated than normal, it was a shit show)

I think the best way is to use Skype or Viber. I think this thing is more data based although you can ring international but its like $1.09 a minute or something... so use viber/skype/whatsapp for messaging/calling

Hey guys. I'm located here in Canada, so the phone / data plans are of interest to me. But I had to chuckle when I read that we're worrying about saving a few bucks on phone calls when you consider the overall cost of flight, hotel, and table service of course! :-)

I don't know what it's like for the Aussie boys, but communications companies in New Zealand, well, how shall I say it without offending some forum members?
Let's just say competition is small, and roaming on my NZ number for the whole month I'm in the US/Canada could set me back my share of a few table service nights.

I'm from Canada too, we got Roam Mobility sim cards, you can buy them at Staples. It's a one time purchase and then after that you can get different plans. The plans include unlimited global texts and unlimited calls to USA and Canada, you can also get data. It only works when you're in the USA though and your phone has to be unlocked.

I think I have an old iPhone 3 kicking around. Its not on a plan... I wonder if that will work ... or do I have to have existing coverage on an unlocked phone? Will check it out before I go on Sunday.

It doesn't need to have existing coverage because you just put in a sim card that will have coverage. It only has to be unlocked so it can work on another network. What phone do you currently have?

If you want to use data/skype/whatsapp or Viber. Iphone 3 is not compatible with the software.

The oldest Iphone that I know works is the 3GS using iOS 6.1

Just be aware of this, should you want to use an older phone and put a US sim in it.
