  • No Bottles?

    So I've been doing something thinking after my most recent trip regarding ordering bottles at a table. I was at Hakkasan on a Thursday, and I was with a rather large group with a lot of forum members. Once we got down to the last bottle or two, we were thinking about whether we should order another bottle. For me personally, bottles are great to fill the minimum and are convenient for easy access. However, my big question was: is buying a bottle cost effective?

    Before anyone flames me, I do understand that b itches love bottles -- and there is some value to having bottles at the table (I am just thinking of maximizing alcohol per dollar)

    1L = 33.814 ounces

    This comes out to approximately 22 and a half shots

    Let's say that average cost of a bottle is $500

    When we factor in gratuity, fees, and taxes (~38%) the cost comes out to approximately $690

    690 / 22.5 = 30.66... so lets say 30 bucks a shot

    At most places, I am pretty confident that you could get a shot of anything for less than 30 bucks. You may even be better off getting a Long Island, AMF, 151/Redbull, etc.

    I'd really like to hear everyone's thoughts on this. If I were to buy a few bottles and use my last 500 spend at the bar, should i be tipping my waitress even more since I have her going to the bar to get me drinks? If so, what would be appropriate?

    Here's a couple of things I factor in just using your math. An average mixed drink costs $18 now. You have a designated spot to sit, and I would gladly pay $2-5 per drink more for that. Additionally, having your own bottle and mixers you can either mix it yourself or your waitress makes you a drink. Either way, no waiting for a bartender, again worth the extra $5/drink. Finally security is right there as well to get people the hell away from you if need be, that's worth it as well. So that's how I break down getting bottles.

      Plus advantages of not waiting in lines, not having to worry about being squished...

        I apologize if I was not clear. I'm saying if we are already CURRENTLY at the table with bottle service. Ordering that $18 mixed drink from your cocktail server, as opposed to simply buying another bottle.

              Up to you honestly. If you're okay with the mixers you have with whatever bottle you order then go for it. If you want something different, then order from the bar.might take longer since they have to go back and forth.

                I'd prob order some shots or drinks. Five or more at a time and tip $20/ round...seems reasonable.
                Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.
