  • Marquee 2014 Line up

    http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/nightl...j-residencies/

Welcome to the party, Marquee Nightclub & Dayclub.

Few surprises pop up on Marquee's long-anticipated 27-act DJ roll call, which was just released via social media and includes EDM heavy-hitters such as Kaskade, Armin Van Buuren, Benny Benassi, ATB, Chuckie, Gareth Emery and Markus Schulz -- all "residents" when the Tao Group danceteria opened late 2010 at the Cosmopolitan. That's a remarkable retention of talent given the musical chairs that's gone on between the other dance-music emporiums on the Strip. (Kaskade played four gigs — one as recent as last Saturday — at XS, though he promised in November he'd return to Marquee, especially for another Summer Lovin' residency at the dayclub.)

That said, Marquee has lost notables such as Avicii (now exclusive to Wynn Nightlife), W&W (who migrated to Hakkasan) and Erick Morillo, a longtime Tao Group loyalist who in 2013 announced a drastic reduction of gigging after his infamous trainwreck of a performance last June and subsequent rehab stint in Malibu, California.

The Cosmo club balances their losses with official new signees such as recent Grammy winner (for Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness") Cedric Gervais, a Wynn resident in 2013; Porter Robinson, who makes his residency debut tomorrow night and also defected from Wynn; Jamie Jones, the Welsh underground favorite who debuted last weekend with an afterhours set and returns Memorial Day Weekend; and hot San Francisco house/techno producer Claude VonStroke, who played sister club Lavo in June for EDC Week and — along with Jones — represents the most visible effort by a Las Vegas megaclub to incorporate music outside commercial EDM/bass music.

Marquee is also doubling down on homegrown talent with upstart 3LAU, back for his second year, as well as longtime Tao Group resident Jason Lema. LA-based regulars Vice, Eric DLux and Politik are also sticking around.
I have to say I'm underwhelmed. They've done nothing to replace the top talent from last year. How is this going to compete with the Wynn (XS/EBC/Surrender) offerings or Hakkasan?

It's like they are not even trying to get into the arms race and instead cede territory.

If I lived in LA I guess I could pop by for Kaskade (again... though he's been there for ages now) but I don't, so nothing I will ever schedule a trip around.
    What I am about.

    Agreed. Disappointing.

It's just the (predictable) effect of opening two mega clubs on top of what was already there. Ultimately, it's good for the consumer.

I dunno, I'd prefer some diversity. Wouldn't mind seen a club take away market shares from Hakkasan. What's happening is that the Tier 1 consists solely of 2 clubs

If you just listen to the Beatport Top 20 then yes be underwhelmed, but to be honest Marquee/Tao Group has always pushed the envelope the most of the Mega Clubs. They've always had the most diverse lineup of DJs and right now only Light touches them. XS and Hak have the 'names' but if your a dance music purist you'll be living at Marquee and Light this year.

Jaime Jones is a HUGE get. Ditto with Claude Von Stroke.

Agreed. I just didn't feel like going into it in my previous post. If you want big names, have at it with Hak and XS. Marquee, from Day 1, was pushing the envelope (to the point I wasn't even sure it would work). For example, Gareth Emery played the best, most entertaining set I've ever seen in Vegas. And I've seen Afrojack, Skrillex, Avicii, etc. in Vegas. Porter is great, so is Cedric, so is Armin. I mean, from a pure talent perspective, it's as good as any club's lineup. It just won't capture Joe Schmo Tourist's attention because there aren't enough names.

As a Marquee regular I love this lineup. Big name DJs don't always play great sets, and especially in the club it is way more about reading the crowd. That's why 3lau at Marquee was actually my favorite set I heard in Vegas last year (although I have to say dash came close). I'm really looking forward to this year.

Big name DJs just draw big crowds, and that can get really annoying even when you have tables. And it's why slumming it at XS/Hakkasan sucks.

While I agree that Marquee is being more adventurous I'd argue it's more out of necessity because they can't compete.
If they could be in the race they would, remember that they had LMFAO and Afrojack every week a few years back.

I agree with all of the above. Does anyone know MDC 2014 pricing? We will be coming in for Friday May 2nd. No dj announced yet but I am sure prices won't change too much between the previous Friday

From what I remember, Afrojack has never been at Marquee and XS stole Redfoo/LMFAO because they were bringing so much $. From the Nightclub & Bar list they still pulled close to 90 mil so they aren't exactly falling on their ass.

Right, I meant Avicii not Afrojack. My mistake.

                            this all over..

if you can get away from the EDM tripe and get somemore names that are along the line of Jamie Jones, possibly get Loco Dice, HS82, Martinez Brothers in then that will get attention from me.
