Do Host use an app based reservations tool to book tables & entries?

My question is this: How do host communicate with each other? Everybody is a friend of a friend, but is there a process behind the scenes that happens? Do they use a app to book tables and entries or is it "let me call/text NAME a VENUE? Restaurants us many different apps for booking (ureserv, seatme, even open table). Do host have an app where they can book a table for their clients directly, or do they always need to talk with someone at the actual venue?

It's mostly verbal/text. An app just wouldn't work given how fluid things are in town.
