  • Ever stay at a Vegas hostel?

Seems like I can save quite a bit by staying at a hostel vs the strip. Public transit runs every 15mins all day. Anyone have stayed in one? My only concern is my belongings with a bunch of people I dont know.

One of the forum members stays at the hostels here often. I'll let him know to come on here and share his experiences.

There are some cheap regular hotels in vegas- Hotels that don't charge resort fees.
Sunday-Thursday you can probably land a regular hotel room for $25 a night flat including tax that will be close to strip or bus route.

Normally I stay at the Quad, during the week its about 20$ plus 10$fee. Weekends can vary. On one trip I was looking at 400$ for 5 nights due to the weekend being 170$ a night. Two hostels were less then 100$ for 5 nights. Both claim public transit is very close and run 24/7. I'm just concerned about my belongings. Are they pretty safe? And also I guess you can come back anytime you want?

What are some hotels that are off strip but close to public transit? Im open to suggestions. Does downtown have public transit?

        Thanks Dex.

I have never stayed in a vegas hostel-
But I can share a story of a friend who tried to stay at one once. We had separate rooms at a casino on the strip and he heard you could stay at a hostel for around $10 a night. I had a rental car so I said before you book online lets go have a look at it first. We visited two hostels that are on las vegas blvd between circus circus and downtown. All said had beds online but when we showed up and said can we see your room- One of them said they were sold out, the other said they were only open to international travelers with an international passport. (we were sober/dressed nicely) So I figured they just were trying to sell rooms online and then when people show up and don't like they don't let you cancel-I'm not 100% but it was weird.

            I would recommend checking www.kayak.com

The best tip I can give you is the vegas bus website www.rtcsnv.com
You can take the WAX from the airport for $2 it stops at Las Vegas Blvd and Trop and also stops Downtown.
The Deuce- the strip bus runs the whole strip including downtown.

Two of the cheaper hotels I know of
El Cortiz downtown is legit no resort fee
also Howard Johnson on East Tropicana, Las Vegas across from MGM no resort fee

Howard Johnson and the motels next to it are a good bargain. You can literally walk to and from Hakkasan and Wet Republic. If you want to venture out you can walk to Hooters and catch a taxi from there.

I've stayed at hostels around the world & I love it. I'm not from the US, but from Canada.

My reasons though for staying are not just to save money. It's because I have the chance to meet people from all over the world.

Is it clean? Hostels can be clean & they can be dirty. The best hostels I've ever stayed in were cleaner than some hotels I've stayed in.

If you want to meet people & are social, hostels are great.

Regarding security at a hostel, they have lockers there & I use them just like I'd use the safe in a hotel. Remember though that a hotel safe can still be opened up by hotel staff...your own personal lock in a hostel can only be opened by you.

2 more things: I know the Vegas hostel you write about. They've had so many problems with Americans staying there not knowing about "hostel culture".

The other thing is I've met some of the most beautiful foreign women staying in hostels...I just had to say that.

So your suitcase and belongings are just in the open? Never had a problem? Then you keep your wallet in your locker? People come and go 24/7?

The hostels I've passed by seem to be in the shady part of Vegas. I would just look into cheap hotel deals out there. the Quad/old Imperial palace seem to have super cheap deals as low as $15-20 each nite.

Just have to time your vacation too. I just saw a deal recently for Excalibur that Sundays are $1.00 and the following days are $20 or so.
