  • Memorial Day Weekend advice

    Hi,

Im planning a Vegas trip with 5 other guys for MDW 2014 - i had no idea the weekend we decided on was MDW.

My question is - is MDW a good weekend for a Vegas newcomer to experience or is it just going to be 5x as expensive and absolutely rammed everywhere?

    Thanks in advance.

expensive as s**t but wall to wall ass

if you got the cash, do it
EastCoast: "I will preach. Vegas is easy. So easy. Either be rich or good looking (or mooch off someone who is one of those). If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

Pretty well sums it up, if you're on a tighter budget and want to do VIP go another weekend.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

Did MDW 2011 (Aria) and 2012 (Monte Carlo) and you will pay more across the board. Insane, fun as hell and TONS of talent. For those 2 trips we did Southwest Airline packages as the cost of the air/hotel combined was less than booking directly and separately.

If you can budget it do it. Wih 5 going get everyone's all in $ amount and plan accordingly. Maybe look at locations that have pools plus the mega pools. Or maybe use Harrahs, Ballys, Flamingo as the hotel location to save money and is centrally located on the strip.

Went to MGM's this July and the regular pools for people staying there did just fine for us for one day so I assume on a holiday it would be better. Flamingo's Go Pool was pretty nice also. Aria's general pool area was really good but had to get there a little early to get some chairs on MDW. Monte Carlo had a foam party on that Saturday of the MDW weekend.

It's a long weekend so definitely do your reseach to maximize if you go that weekend.

        Hope this helps

I feel MDW is very doable if you set your budget correctly. It is good that you are trying to plan your trip far in advance. Keep checking for inexpensive flights and cheap hotels. Start playing MyVegas to get a few comps, etc. If you want to save money, try and get a table on the days that are not Friday and Saturday. There are usually some big name DJs before or after the actual weekend. If you have your heart set on doing a table Friday and Saturday, see if you can meet up with some people from the forums to reduce the cost. If it is not in your budget, be sure to get pre sales and get to the venue early.

          Hope this helps a little.

I have spoken to a couple of people on here who have experienced it and i think im going to go either the weekend after or the first weekend in May. This far in advance the flights and accom are very reasonable for any weekend in May.

I haven't been to Vegas before and some people in my group are a little tighter on budget - i really want to be able to get a daybed/table in a club and it seems like MDW the competition will be too high!

Im sure its a great weekend, but hopefully the weekend of the 10th or 31st will still be busy enough for us to have a good time without having to commit to huge table minimums. Our group enjoy pre-gaming and drinking together before we hit a club so being forced to arrive at 10pm and then commit to $600+ each on booze we probably wont need by that time of night isnt going to work.

            Thanks for the advice folks.

Smart move on your end. May is the summer and the pools will all be in full swing at that point.

Since pre gaming is part of the festivities sign up for free at www.vons.com and put in your alcohol, snacks, etc. order to be delivered to your hotel. It's simple to do and you can do it 2 or 3 weeks out from the trip. Did it in July and it was free first delivery. I tipped the guy $10 and he brought it up to the room, just had to meet him in the lobby. Was in the lobby at 5:05 and my time slot was between 5-6 PM. Best $150 I spent in LV for our 1 week debacle.
