  • Nightlife Advice for a 40 Something...

OK...have been lurking for some time, now my first post.

A bit about me…41 year old chap from the UK, recently divorced. I was a bit of a party animal back in my 20’s (Madchester acid house era, Ibiza rave scene etc) but calmed down a lot over the last 15-20 years – marriage, kids and professional employment will do that to you.

I have a solo 10-day trip booked to Vegas for November.

I’m looking for some advice on nightlife. Not sure I would feel comfortable at the top clubs with all the twenty something’s – although I have been told that I still have 'good game' as you American folk like to say!

Would appreciate some suggestions on where I could head to between 10pm – 3am for drinks, dancing and to mingle with a more mature crowd (30yrs+) and shoot the breeze.

My music tastes are varied to the extreme (I basically like most genres) – from 70’s disco to Public Enemy; from The Prodigy to Soundgarden.

One thing I’m not really prepared to do is to blow mega $’s on drinking, entrance fees etc…budgeting to spend around $200-$250 per night on partying.

Looking forward to some ideas on where to hang out.

    Cheers,

    J

44 here and know what you mean. Ton of time on your hands so I'm going to throw a lot of options at you. Normally our group age range is 32-51 so here's what happened in July for our 1 week debacle.

Pre game is mandatory. Go to www.vons.com and sign up for free to order and have delivered for free on first order your snacks, food, alcohol you will want to have in your room to the hotel at set time based on the calender they give you. $10 tip got the guy to bring everything to my room, just had to meet him in the lobby. Best $150 spent.

First off f@ck the age thing. Also, you have that damn accent women melt for and we hate you for.Go pre sale to The Light and Hakkasan to experience the true Vegas holy sh!t factor of clubs. If you pregame plus presale, maybe 2-3 drinks at club we're talking $120-150 each club for separate nights. Not including cabs since I do not know where you are staying.

If you want to max out the clubs and spend less do one of the party bus club tours for 1 night. You only get an hour in each club, no wait in line grab a drink in each one but you'll see 3 or 4 more clubs. Cost of bus tix, tips all in maybe $200 for that night drinks taken in will determine that.

Weird possibility but...Thursday night at Toby Keith's Bar at Harrahs. Why? Ladies night all you can drink for $20. Huge range of women who are out having a good time which means better ratio for the guys. Free entry, very inexpensive drinks for guys. We had 8 girls who went bat crap crazy in our group that night and the 6 guys spent total with shots and buying rounds under $600 so $100/per guy average. Just a thought. Beware of the mason jar drink if you go there. 2 is dangerous a 3rd ko'd one of our boys.

Now outside Harrah's is an outdoor area called Carnival. Live bands and dj's on stage, music goes across all spectrums and wide range in age. No cover as it is an open area with a bar so depending on how much you drink + if you buy the girls a drink...in budget there.

Check out every lounge in Cosmo and Aria and grab a drink. For us it was just to say we did it. Grabbed a couch, had 2 drinks and moved on. Great scenery to view there for the guys.

Low end 1 night to spend is definitely Fremont Street. 2 stages with live bands performing usually. Also go to the club Gold Diggers in Golden Nugget. Check for the free passes outside the casino or else $10 to get in. Great outdoor patio overlooking Fremont Street and Gold Diggers plays 70's up. Drinks are a lot cheaper than the strip and had a blast.

Great resource for other clubs on the strip so you can get an idea of what else may work for you.

Hope this helps in your quest for a great Vegas trip.

      KP...great advice, thanks.

Seems to fit with pretty well with my hotel plans...first 2 nights at Golden Nugget; then 4 nights at the Aria...rest of vacation will be spent checking out Zion and Bryce NP's.

Had to laugh about the accent thing....American ladies do seem to love it!

A good link to all of the bars, etc on Fremont Street:

        http://www.fremontstreetbars.com/fre...las-vegas-map/

Mermaids is $1 drafts $3 everything else when we were there in July. Insert Coins is a video gamers dream as it has everything from the 70's up in video arcade games in a small club type scenario. DCR is very lounge, laid back but great mixologists.

Happy hours while at Aria check out Todd English's Pub right there outside of Aria. Two happy hours a day, check out their website. Another good one is in Monte Carlo called The Pub. their website goes into more details. PBR Rock Bar in Planet Hollywood has a $50 open bar deal also in case you need a chill night with little fanfare.

        Enjoy the trip.

At the top clubs 40's is not old at all, man. You have to think every one of all ages comes here to celebrate something and most of those celebrations are post 20's, marriage, divorce, birthdays, etc.. so it's not like a regular city club scene/age group. Go to the top places, you won't feel out of place at all. I do agree on the lounges at Cosmo and Aria, my favorites are Chandelier/Cosmo and Duece at Aria. These are good pretty much just weekends though when more traffic is in town. Other than that, hit the clubs.

            Thanks Kaz,

My first 2 nights (Fri and Sat) will be downtown (1st night probably a write-off due to travel fatigue); the next 4 nights on Strip staying at Aria.

Any suggestions on liveliest clubs and lounges on the Sun, Mon,Tue,Wed. Appreciate that it will be low season but hoping that there will be a few venues that will be buzzing.

            Cheers...advice is greatly appreciated.
