I generally reach out about 1 week in advance. I think 1-2 weeks prior is good.

2-4 weeks out... less than 2 weeks is too short notice IMO... Hosts may have promised great spots to others by then.

Generally, as soon as the lineup (ie. DJ) is announced for the party a host will be willing to talk bottles with you at that point

Most places generally annouce their lineups about 30 days out.

I agree. It doesn't hurt to reach out early to find out the minimums and what options are available.
