Dress codes and collared shirts

Sorry for asking such a silly question, let's put it down to me being English and the transatlantic divide between our shared language...

Most clubs seem to specify collared shirts. Does this include polo shirts (i.e. a T-shirt with a collar), or only fully-buttoned shirts?

Obviously any of the above has to be smart. I know there will be a little variation depending on who you are, but I'm asking about the official policy; that is, one that would apply to a group of tourist guys.

IMO I think it depends on the club. Places like Tryst and Chateau are going to be far more forgiving than somewhere like XS. I am unaware of any official policy but IMO a normal polo shirt is a bit too casual for high end spectrum of vegas nightlife. Of course, there are "stylish" polo-style shirts just like there are "Stylish" T-shirts that will get you past a doorman without a second glance... and, as you acknowledged, other factors like the rest of your attire, your attitude, your group, etc come into play.

But to be safe, I'd advise against it for nicer clubs.

A good-fitting, stylish (solid) polo is better than half the collared shirts I see on people in Vegas clubs. You'll get in if you fit that criteria. Basically, don't come to the door rocking a two-sizes-too-large Tommy Hilfiger striped polo.
