  • Guest list + tip

So I know there's the whole tipping your host thing.. especially if you want good service.. but the few times I've hit up a host to ask for guest list for me and my girls, I've never actually MET the host. They just put my name on the list and whoever is checking people in allows us in (and one time our name wasn't on the list, but they let us in anyways haha). If you don't meet your host, is there still some expectation of tipping? Or am I going about things wrong?

    Thank you!

You checking in under their name is already paying them something. Unless they go out of their way to meet you and walk you in personally there's no reason to tip. It takes them less than 3 minutes to add your name to the list from their phone.

We don't get paid on guest list. The promoters do so that's the main reason. A lot of times, if you just want guest list, I'll direct you to a promoter. Many times the promoters guest list line is still long and may even be closed, that's when you need a host to walk you in, then you tip.

Ahh sorry my mistake Isaac, thought all guestlist worked the same regardless if they were hosts, promoters, or venue staff.

Oh, interesting. I thought that there was a similarity too.. I typically get the numbers off the lists here, and haven't gone in awhile but had no problems before. That's good to know that there is a difference between hosts and promoters. When would be the right time to reach out to hosts vs promoters? Thank you!

Edit w/ question: Would you reach out to a host only if the list falls through? Do hosts typically put people on the guest, or only forward requests to promoters? Now I feel like I have things backwards haha.

From what I understand, at some places there are staff guest lists and promoter guest lists. Staff guest lists will move faster.

Even if I'm wrong, you can never go wrong with contacting a recommended JC host, or your favorite host at any given nightclub. If you're down to tip and don't want to wait in line, contact your host ahead of time to see if you can schedule a walk in.

Do guestlist people go through GA line and then say something when they're at the front or is there a separate line like for presales? Looking to get the girls in my group on a guestlist in july and trying to figure out how that whole process works.

What my friends and I have done in the past is text a promoter ahead f time, like a few days, and say "hey we have x amount of girls/guys coming, is there any guest list available?" And they will respond yes or no and ask for our name(s). I've o my ever had one promoter not put us on the list and because we knew his name the door man let us in anyways.

Not sure how the host aspect of it works, I just know if they let you cut the line and walk in, you tip them (his much, I'm not sure)
