  • Young son with Old father

    Hi all!

Im 23 and I'm travelling to Vegas this weekend to celebrate my fathers 50th birthday. He's only just found out he's going and is ecstatic. Just me and him going.

I've noted the itinerary thread and done a lot of research however I'm yet to come across anything to answer my questions. Obviously given the age gap, I want to find something that caters for both young and old. My main concern is of a night time, whilst he's pretty active and can hold his own when it comes to the booze, I don't think he's really up for the night club scene. Is there any places that would be sort of in between a lively bar and a nightclub that would satisfy us both? He's into gambling so some nights could well be spent in casinos and we'll obviously be visiting the standard vegas attractions. Also, what about the pool parties during the day? Do you see many older men there?

A point to note that my father looks no where in the region of 50 and I'd say is more 50 going on 30!!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Mate, 50 is not old at all....

A few things you might want to do with your father:
    a) check out MIX @ Mandalay Bay for the view
    b) have a few drinks at the Chandelier Bar @ Cosmopolitan. It's a cool place that is not nightclubbish.
    c) knock back a few beers at The Pub @ Monte Carlo.
    d) have a nice steak dinner (there are a number of very good steakhouses in Vegas -- but you should book ASAP)
    e) check out a strip club (Spearmint Rhino) - trust me, he'll have a laugh and love it

As for pool parties, there is a vast age range... However, I would say Encore Beach Club and Marquee Dayclub would be the classier (and my recommended) options. I'd suggest you get a chair or couch or somewhere to sit though... I wouldn't want my dad (who is 55) sitting on the edge of a pool or on some ledge for the whole day.
EastCoast: "I will preach. Vegas is easy. So easy. Either be rich or good looking (or mooch off someone who is one of those). If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

Important question, not to be indelicate here but i've been in the same situation...so is your father still married to your mother?
Otherwise stripclubs can be akward maybe...
not be indelicate, just to suggest programs since i've also been with my dad once.

XS might be a good look. Club inside, more chill outside, and a gambling pavillion. Make sure to work in a drink at Hyde during lounge hours too.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

            Yeah they're separated!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Giving me a lot more options than I'd found through research of my own.

I take my Dad down every couple of years and we're just a bit older than you guys. MIX has worked well for us and the Deuce Lounge in Aria was good (allowed us to play some Blackjack in the lounge) Since he's into gambling, the Pleasure Pit in PH is always a good bet haha. Lastly, not sure if your Dad is into old videogames, if he is the Pinball Hall of Fame is a must. We visit at least once a trip and my Dad loves that place (and it's a great way to only spend $10 for an afternoon!)

Book some reservations for dinner. 2 guys so a steakhouse is perfect. That's what most older people do, trade nightclubs and bars for restaurants. Vegas is the perfect place for this. 9pm res at sw or cut, get some vino, apps, ribeye... Spend a few hours there... It's busy so it'll be a fun atmosphere.
