Ouch. I figured it was coming since they didn't even have a schedule up for the coming weekend. I feel bad for all of the hosts, servers, etc. that left other clubs to come there, especially coming into slow season.

That didnt last long at all. I think that serves as writing on the wall re:

1 - Overpaying for DJs (as well as shady practices)
      2 - Being Off Strip
3 - Bringing in insta hoes and promotional / atmosphere models to fill you club up
4 - the way vegas nightlife is heading.

Frank Fertitta said the club patrons didn't have "spendable money". Who spends $200+ on drinks in GA? Not like they sold any tables, we went elsewhere.

I think it's a lot simpler than that: even in a good economy, the total amount of available customers/dollars is insufficient to support so many clubs.
Demand for clubbing experiences in Vegas is not unlimited: the size of the market is a given and is only minimally stimulated by the signing of great talent and the opening of a great party space. 2019 has been an obvious case of oversupply in the market: when that happens, prices drop or tables go unsold, yields take a hit, and clubs struggle to make money.

Success for KAOS could only have come from the demise of at least one between EBC and Wet Republic during the day, and at least one between XS, OMNIA or Hakkasan at night.
It was clear all season that KAOS was failing to consistently attract the sellout crowds it would have needed to actually afford Marshmello and the other headliners (they might have broken even with CardiB, but even that may not have been the case based on some of the things I've heard from insiders). And when those big names weren't in town, the club was often nowhere close to attracting the numbers it evidently needed to support the costs of such a large space.

It will be interesting to see what 2020 and 2021 bring to the scene: after the closing of Bank in 2018, Intrigue, Hyde and KAOS in 2019, will demand match supply again? Will the new MGM properties survive? Will a new club open at the revamped Virgin hotel?

Sounds like he was banking on the thought of club patrons boosting casino revenue which is dumb. This ambitious project didn't seem to have a shred of market research to back up the truckloads of money they put into it. Then to invest even more sealing the top with a dome only to shutter it a few days later. Yikes.

Which club would you guess is next to fold?

I think the top 3, Hak, Omnia and XS will be able to sustain for awhile still. There is still a market out there, just not a lower tier club experience anymore. In July they were slammed and this past weekend was pretty busy for the time of year at Hak and Omnia. Not the same the summer crowds but really solid for a Nov weekend.
It will be interesting to see how the new supper clubs fair and if they are able to attract us older folks on a consistent basis.

i think we're gonna see less of the big names once contracts run out but i saw the official JC profile say chainsmokers signed on for another 2 years. wynn earnings call is later today so i'll tune in to see if they mention anything. they used kaos as the excuse for a drop in club/food and bev performance last quarter.

I just dont understand, who the hell approves the dome for them to shut down a week later? Is that going to be any use? Palms will never make it. Its not 15 years ago where palms and rehab were the hottest things. Anyone thinking a club off the strip will make it is just nuts. now you have all the hottest things within walking distance or the monorail. Youd have to make it completely different, like full latin or country and stand out. Or maybe skip the dome, keep the costs low, low budget djs and do some crazy table prices, $10 ga for couples, $40 for guys and cheap ass drinks to stress the other joints out. make the damn place free till 12am lol. I bet if you picked up xs right now and put it inside palms it wouldnt make it a year.

With MGM feeling the heat and already closing Hyde, The Bank I bet one of their other tier 2 clubs go. My guess it will be Jewel

"Both the dayclub and nightclub shut down for six weeks, beginning in September, to construct a 70-foot dome that covers 33,000 square feet of space. It doesn’t appear to have been missed much over that time span. Cootey said Red Rock saw “no degradation in any of the lines of business at the Palms” over the weeks. While the Palm sees an increase in business at the gaming floor and restaurants while the Palms’ Pearl Theater is in use, Fertitta said the same did not hold true for Kaos.“We did not see that correlation with the nightclub,” Fertitta said. “One could even make the case that it may have had a negative impact to the core gaming customer on the property"

I don't know how Jewel is doing, but I don't think your rationale for picking Jewel is solid. Jewel is a Hakkasan Group property, not an MGM one. No idea how it's doing along with 1OAK, also a Hakkasan venue.

And while MGM did lose The Bank and Hyde, it has also invested in new venues: On the Record, Jemaa, and Supper Club (in Hyde's old spot). It also looks to me like it is shoring up the offering at Alibi (the bar at Aria) to occasionally feature late night music.
In other words, I don't see MGM retreating, I think they are adjusting their offering by moving away from the pure clubbing model in favor of the ultra lounge model. It makes a lot of sense on paper: less startup capital, no need for expensive DJ signings, and the flexibility to use real estate in different ways at different times of the day/night/week/year.
Flexibility is everything: the ability to rapidly adjust a venue's offering to cover anything from DJ sets to private/corporate events to sporting event screenings can really help maximize revenue every day of the year.
And MGM properties have phenomenal location and great foot traffic: even Mandalay Bay, which used to be peripheral, will soon see a lot more traffic thanks to football.

I have never been to Chateau but I am suspicious about its chances. It's a tier 2 club that does not appear to have its own niche and sits in a cheaper hotel.
TAO, Light, Daylight each have their own niches and I see them on solid footing, at least in theory. Marquee may not have a niche but it has a great location in a trendy hotel. The one MGM property I can't decipher is Bare: it definitely has a niche and it has the advantage of being tiny and therefore not hard to fill, but I do wonder how it's doing.
Another small summer club is Liquid, which I assume does well on account of location and what appears to me to be a clever scheduling of DJs (I could be VERY wrong, but I have noticed they tend to do hip hop on days when hip hop is lacking on strip pool parties, and EDM when hip hop is covered).

Anyway, my money is on Chateau being the next one to bight the dust.

                            Pretty much common sense.

                            Busy Hotel, Busy Club.

All the busy clubs are located in busy hotels that have a great client base and/or convention business.

Kaos was too big and Palms is too slow.

If this is true thats why they ended it like they did. It was just hanging on enough to keep going and take the risk with the dome until they witnessed the spike in gaming.......take a loss on it and hope hak group will take it over again. win win lol
