  • ID Cards & Passports

    Hi all,

this sounds like a stupid question, but how does the identification work when you go to a nightclub? Do the guys at the door ask for an ID card? And if they do, do they accept foreign (German) ID Cards or do we need to carry our passport with us all the time?

I remember when I was studying in San Diego they would not accept our ID cards and we always took our passports to the clubs which was really annoying. While they were really strict in SD, in San Francisco they didn't ask for any identification at all. How do they handle this in Vegas?

    Thank you for your help!

You definitely need ID in Vegas, one of the hosts would be able to tell you if the doormen are familiar with German photo ID's. I'd say prepare for San Diego rather than the apparent, no check in SF.

Photocopy of passport + normal German ID should be ok - call the club to double check if you're worried.
EastCoast: "I will preach. Vegas is easy. So easy. Either be rich or good looking (or mooch off someone who is one of those). If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

        Thanks, guys!

I hope they will be familiar with our ID cards but since we need our passports for the trip we will have them with us anyway.

I'm from Austria and I never had troubles with my drivers license in Vegas. Just to clear things up, it is a plastic ID card - not the old paper ones

              Sounds good rooney

And yes...it's the new plastics one. I'm too young for the old pink paper license!!
We will all take a color copy of our passports with us just to be sure.

just make sure to bring more copies - i guess the copies won't survive the pool parties

It depends on how much money you are spending at the club. If you do bottle service any ID will do, if you do GA then your German ID might not be good enough .

I'm actually not joking as that's exactly what happened to me at XS. I am German and they did not accept my German ID one time at XS when trying to get in through GA, so we decided heck let's do bottle service and all of a sudden my ID was totally fine. After that I always carried my passport around and never had issues until of course stupid me got trashed one night and lost it. Now that I am coming to Vegas for the first time with my new passport, I am still a little split on what I will do. I might risk taking my passport because I don't want to chance not getting in as that's a huge mood killer in my opinion just have to figure out how I can insure myself from not losing it again or I might try it with photocopies.

My guess is that is for check in. The door at XS is more than familiar with Canadian ID's.

I will let you guys know how it worked once we are back.

@ Kels7700, when you call them, can you maybe ask not only for Canadian IDs but international ID cards (e.g. German ;-) ) as well? Thank you!

As I said earlier, my experiences as an exchange student were totally confusing. One time they wouldn't sell us beer at all because our German passport did not have our current body weight. What?? At least this way I will never forget the Santa Barbara Brewery... ;-)

whatever you do do not carry both at one time. If you loose one that blows but you can still get around. If you lose both you are F**ked. Make copies and keep them in your safe in your room.

I know all clubs have seen IDs from all over the world but I dont know what they take. AUS, MEX, and Canada are fine with no passport but I dont know about the EU or anywhere else :/

Bumping this thread since I have a question regarding passports and getting in with new venues like daylight, light and hakkasan. On the wantickets site of daylight they mention for example: "... Foreign residents must have passports. ...".

Does anyone have information regarding this issue?
