  • How to get a job at a club?

This question goes out to all the Industry workers or anyone who knows.

How do you get a job at a club? A server assistant in particular but interested to know others as well.

Please share your story on how you got your job.

I don't know anybody that works at a club, nor have any experience working in one or at any restaurant. I know some clubs start accepting applications around February which I'm planning on applying. My question is without the know who or the experience is there still a chance for me to get hired? If so, what can I do or say to better my odds.

A friend of mine told me to get a job as a Busser then try but I haven't been able to yet. Any advice anyone?

The day clubs start hiring next month. It's Vegas so being relatively good looking and in shape helps. Servers assistants bust ass, so if your not up for working hard it's probably not the right job.

Some clubs do interviews year round. I would contact a host and ask them for the number/email of the person who holds the interviews.

So you're looking for a job as a busser...well for most joints it doesn't require much experience to apply. I say submit to everyone and do whichever interview spots hit you back. The top spots probably require at least a little restaurant or bar experience. You're incomes gonna be a low hourly wage, and you'll mainly be relying on tips. Don't expect to grab a job at Marquee or XS with no experience, but finding a job at a bar/sports bar/bottom tier club or lounge shouldn't require any experience.

Oh if anyone can give me an inside look of everything they do that would be helpful too. I don't mind busting my ass for the money. I read in another thread they make 55-85k a year? Is this true? Or has that changed with the economy?

I'm willing to take a lower tier job but my only problem is that I need to be sure I can make atleast 1300 a month at a minimum to pay my bills and rent. I've been working at a dead end job that I don't like just to support my small family but now that my ex broke up with me and moving out I'm ready to get a better job and make that change. I won't be able to pick up a second Job to get experience cuz me and my ex have split custody and I still want time with my baby. Sorry for the irrelevant life issues.

Here's a kicker. I met with the assistant manager of xs and he gave me his card. He told me to email him in feb to get set up for an interview. I need advice to prepare for this as this could be my shot to change my life around.

55-85k for a busser? I'm in the wrong line of work then

I know the BS waitresses make bank though. They're the new "strippers" in Vegas.

after tips and everything 60k ish is probably accurate. plus Vegas is really cheap to live. its a lot of hours and you have to put up with cleaning up people messes and drunk idiots every night.

I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this question. I've been really interested in obtaining a job at a nightclub as well. I will be graduating from college in the spring, and plan on moving out to Vegas right afterward. My major is business/economics heavy, so I am looking into something more towards the marketing and management side. However, I am willing to start where I need to. I know there are a couple of new nightclubs opening on the strip next year. Would anyone happen to know somebody I could contact? I appreciate the help in advance!

In Vegas its all about who you know. Experience too. Since you have neither I relate your situation to an undrafted free agent making it the nfl. You are going to have to work really hard to convince them to choose you over the others that apply and know what they are doing. You might need to start at a lowered tier place and the move up. Find someone who started from nothing like you because they might be open to helping you like someone did for them.

                    60k for what position?
If it's a busser, I think that number is a little high.
In some cases, a LOT high.

Also...some of these jobs are UNION jobs remember.

A family friend that used to work at Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino as a chef told me that valets can make up to 6 figures per year. Likely a lot of that is via gratuity, so I think it depends on the level of service you provide to guests. I've had some porters/bussers give me great service and if I had more money, I would have definitely given them a bigger tip than the standard 20% gratuity.

On a side note: In one case, I had the worst service from a waitress for table/bottle service I will ever remember. I spoke to the nightclub host and security and I told them I wanted her removed from serving our table and I was very explicit in telling them that I didn't want ANY of our table/bottle service gratuity to be shared with her. (Simple reasons really: she rarely showed up to our table to see how we were doing, she refused to take pictures with one of the people at the table and it was his birthday & generally she had a bad attitude).

If so, what would be the average amount on the low end for a 'busser / server assistant at a club?'

or at what percent of the waitresses tips do they get? any info would be great.. although I feel that this subject might be forbidden to discuss within the industry as everyone that I have asked has never gave me a straight answer .. not sure though.

From what I understand the base pay is like $8,000/year then you'd get like 3% of the auto-gratuity.
So if a club does $10mm in bottle service in a year, that's $2mm in auto-gratuity. 3% of that would be $60,000.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

Sounds about right, I was going to say something similar. Plus that number doesn't count the cash tips which I am sure can equate to a pretty decent amount each night.
