  • How Much To Tip

    Hi all,

    Just a quick question about tipping. I've already booked a table this year for a group of us, and we've already been charged a 20% service charge. Who does this actually go to? And who do I tip on the night?

    We've booked a table with bottle service for our group and I was wondering about the details. In the UK we don't generally tip as much as people do in the USA (esp. Vegas) so I want to know more details please, so I get it right!

    Thank you.

    20% goes to your server. Generally, the security, bus person, and host get tipped. There are a lot of variables that go into how much you tip. Security could be 20 to 100. The busser roughly 20 and the host anywhere from 50 to whatever. The main thing to remember is whatever youre comfortable with and the quality of the service that is provided. These are numbers I stick to. They dont make them 100% correct

        Ok thanks. And do the numbers change depending on how many people are in my group? Thanks for your guidance!

          For bottle service I wouldnt tip by how many are in your group. I would tip a host by how many bottles youre buying or by your total bill. You can tip 100/bottle you buy. Or you could tip something like 20% of your bill.

            My personal rule of thumb...

            Host:
            Minimum = $50
            Usual = $75/bottle
            Great service = $100/bottle

            Runner/Busser:
            Minimum = $20
            Usual = $40
            Great Service = $60

            Security (per each in your area):
            Minimum = $20
            Usual = $40
            Help them look the other way = $60

            Bathroom Attendant:
            $20 if the line is crazy and you can't/don't want to wait. I've only resorted to this once, and the guy let me skip the line the rest of the night. Although, if you've tipped the security guards around your table well, they will plow a path to the bathroom for you and walk you past the line also.

            You don't HAVE to tip anyone anything, except the auto 20% on the bill. The runner does get a piece of that 20% by the way.
            Anything you tip the host gets pooled and split up among the entire staff at the end of the night.

            Make sure one person in your group handles the tipping, and make sure everyone in your group knows that one person is handling the tips. The last two times I did bottle service multiple people in our group were tipping security so our group ended up tipping each guy like $80-100....on the up side, security was at our beckon call all night!
            Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

              Tip the host $50-$100.
              If you want a better table location, tip him more.
              If you have an epic night and won a bunch of money at the tables, give them more.
              If your group is going to be a demanding bunch, then tip more.
              If your buddies are known for getting way too wasted and might get kicked out, tip more ahead of time. When your buddy jumps off the bar into a group of people (with his pants off) and they don't kick him out - then tip more right after it happens.

                Who do you tip for that one

                Ok thansk for the answers guys. I have the table location already booked for NYE so will tip accordingly. Also, I'm assuming you tip as you go along instead of dropping everything right at the start of the night?

                  Totally up to you....as far as when you tip....here's what I do:

                  Host: Tell them how much you will tip when you make the booking. If you've already booked, no worries, but if you're tipping generously it's best to do it the first time you shake their hand before they make the final decision as to which table you'll be getting. A wise man once said, much of your night is determined during the time your host greets you to when they go to the podium to make the table selection. It can only help if they're in a great mood when they make that decision

                  Runner: When the host/server introduces you, tip them your "minimum" amount, more later if you feel it's deserved

                  Security: Tip when introduced at the beginning of the night, more later if you feel it's deserved

                  Server: Tip an extra $20 as you see fit if they're really doing a nice job, or if you want to make sure they spend a little extra time at your table.
                  Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

                    Tipping security will also help attract the right crowd to your table and keep the undesirables out. Security is good at finding groups of single girls to introduce to your table. They are also good at removing any unwanted bottle rats from your table, as needed.

                      I will echo Timbuck and Chucks posts in regards to when to tip. I've always worked in advance with the host my planned tip and then tipped once I've been walked to our table. I tip the runner the min amount I plan for right when I meet him and then based on how much work we make him do tip more later in the night. Same with security - tip the min up front and when we've had them help us with watching our table when we all get up, kicking people from our area, bringing girls around, etc we tip more (and tip as I'm asking for that service). That method has always worked for me!

                        Thanks for all your help guys. I was actually a little hesitant to ask the question in case it's a stupid question, but I really wanted to how how it's done as in London we really don't tip like they do in the US. And I have had bottle service in Vegas before but have just been winging it (and gettign it wrong which this thread has taught me)!

                        PS: Bottle rats - I've only experienced this once when we had bottle service at the Palms Moon a few years ago, and almost fell out of my seat when asked if 2 strange girls and their guy friend could also drink from our bottle!
