Host Tipping - Lets get technical

Need some help so I don't inadvertently jam up a host while trying to help me out...

What is the proper technique for handing a tip to a host / doorman at a club? How discreet does the "handshake" need to be? Does the cash need to be neatly folded in my hand and passed via actual handshake, or can one simply hand over a couple bills? Does the etiquette or technique differ among hosts, security, etc?

Pretty much. Fold and handshake. I do it exactly the same way for hosts, security, runners etc..

I have not mastered the art of the perfect handshake tip so I pretty much just hand it to them in a discrete way, but this isnt for skipping a line. This is for a host hooking me up with tables.

See, that's why I keep my tipping cash separate from my general cash. The former is in the inside pocket of my sport coat, the latter is in a pants pocket.

I always keep my business cash separate and ready to go - if I'm going to tip out for a night out I have it all folded in my pocket ready to go. Only mixup I ever had was when I gave security the wrong bundle - he took very good care of us that night

I make it look like a music video, put it all in ones and then shoot it off my hand like a gangsta to "make it rain". But in all seriousness, I just fold it and do the "WHATS UP" handshake, do the one armed "bro hug" and go on.
