Everyone takes their own path. Some start out on Day 1 as a host on a trial period and just see how it goes. (which by the way will generally only work out if you have a large social network with well-paying jobs and regular clubgoers) Most start as a promoter and work their way up. I takes each person a different time period to work their way up, but once again it all comes down to the size of your network and how much money they spend.
A lot of Tier 3 clubs and some Tier 2 clubs will hire you straightup and try you out regardless of experience. Some Tier 1 clubs might hire if someone with pull knows you well and can vouch for your network and their spending habits.
To get in with no experience and not knowing anyone at Tier 1, just start sending a lot of clients to the venue and work out a deal with someone to gain recognition. Once they see what you can bring and are satisfied, most will be happy to hire you if they have an open spot on the team.

Noah is absolutely correct. you can start as a promoter, build your contacts and connections and then apply as a host somewhere. start as a jr. host (which is still basically a promoter). jr host are more responsible for running tables, guest list, and selling tables. If you do not already have a strong network of people i would advise against starting as a host on day 1. if you cant produce then you will be cut and thats not a great way to start your host career. i started as a promoter, made some connections, and then became a hostKorye Blackmon
