You should be able to go to your local courthouse and get a state issued non driver id on the spot.
I say this having no idea what state you are in but I would try the courthouse before you attempt to get a passport expedited. I had to get a quick passport a few years ago, the process entails calling an automated service and making an appointment at the nearest passport office (there are not many, i live in ny and had to go to Stamford, CT). Once there I waited on line for a while and then was told to come back in a few hours and got my passport. Its totally doable but it takes a whole day, at least that was my experience.

Looked into that Cali DMV will only issue me a paper ID inperson and I would have to wait 2-3 weeks for an actual ID. No better than my current D.L. situation. I made some calls today and from what I gather...as far as getting my license I'm screwed until mid october. My DL expires in november. Because we are so close. They will not re-issue my soon to be expiring license. According to DMV the temp is good for 60 days...So thats all I get until my notice comes in the mail.

As far as passport goes. I would have to use the USPS. I work 9:00-6:00 minimum. Typically later. No days off until I leave. So its out of the question I guess. Thanks guys. Guess I will just take my chances. Maybe I can do a $20 sandwich between my temp ID and Expired ID. LOL...I'm sure that would piss someone off.

Something to keep in mind about those quick passports: they might require proof of international travel in order to justify the expediting. It's the government, and they don't believe in straining their system just so you can live it up in Vegas.

isn't that a shame!!! haha. the gov't is only good at taking away half your income, not assisting you.

I guess if you make it through the airport then everyone else shouldn't have a problem.
I came back from Vegas like a year after 9/11, so I would have been in my mid 20's, and my license expired a month or so before we went.
Made it through the departure airport, checked in to the hotel, gambled, drank, etc. Nobody questioned it until
I went to check in for my return flight and finally someone noticed. Still got through okay, just had to take a couple extra steps going through security.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

These are good explanations for what to do prior to a trip with the loss of an ID, but I've always wondered what happens mid-Vegas! Let's say you leave the passport at home and do what you normally do, bring out your DL as your sole form of photo ID.

It is Vegas, after all, so surely this has happened. People are bound to get drunk and forgetful - What happens if you look 25-30 and lose your DL mid-trip?. I'm guessing you're f'ked and the trip is entirely shot?
