  • Such thing as OVER tipping?

So I usually don't club when I'm back home but followed basic Vegas rules when booking a table at a local club last night.

100 to the Manager who booked my reservation (was very helpful took care of prepaying everything on my corporate credit card and even charging more on it as the night transpired and didn't have a problem with me not having them hold the card)

70 to my bouncer (Was very friendly but people were getting through all night even after I tipped him at the start of it but he was helpful getting any girls I wanted and helped me get ahold of my keys at the end of the night when I dropped them)

And the big one which is generally out of the ordinary 670 on a bill just north of 900 for my waitress who was refilling ice doing everything herself the whole night and pretty much doubled as a bouncer asking me if I wanted people out the whole evening.

Also she informed me that as the manager left who was busy and didnt come up and say hi that evening that any other bottles were a little under half off.

I figured since I am starting to party back home instead of Vegas or LA I would spread the love.

I mean its my first time clubbing back home and I figure its good karma showing I take care of people who take care of me and my friends and generally any discounts I throw back in the form of tips.

Still do you think a 670 dollar tip on a 950 for a waitress bill is overtipping for a club in a smaller major city? 300 or so was Auto Grat I told her put another hundred on the card and slipped her a couple of hundreds in cash

Spread all the wealth you want, there obviously isnt anything wrong with it. That being said, that is a rather large tip. It does sound like she was a great server though.

As long as you have the means, and the service is worthy, there is no such thing as over-tipping.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

I tipped around 350 on a 500 (pre-tax pre auto grat) tab at Tao Beach once. Felt the service was top notch, had a great location, and the server was very good about following my instructions on letting me be the only one who orders and keeping track of the number.

I probably would have been less generous if I was sober but good karma I guess...

Yes there are only a couple really nice tables right by the roof top bar and they gave us one.

Perhaps spreading it over towards the VIP Manager who runs the club would have been better but I didn't see him the entire night and had given him a 100 dollar handshake the night before when I introduced myself.

Hopefully tipping well also encourages the club itself to be more receptive on booking us the best tables and it gets around and we get good treatment like last night. Sure she was just a waitress but you would hope they know I take care of people now

The server did an amazing job though

If it was to be nice and you're ok with spending it, I'm all for it. I always tip well (relatively to here) because staff at clubs here are genuinely nice to me, and because I'm a regular at the clubs. I always tip the maximum that I'm financially able to.

You were right to tip her, whether it's too much is up to you. It's definitely large compared to the usual tips shell be getting (I'm only assuming)

Btw I especially appreciate it when waiters or whoever puts a client above their manager when the client is right. A bartender here once had a fight with his manager for me, he's one of my closest friends now.

Yes you overtipped but it's up to you. Better than undertipping.

Your not undertipping is what mainly matters IMO. Was it necessary, maybe not, but tipping is all about your appreciation for the service. Not everyone will be able to do that since not every patron maybe financially able to. As long as you conveyed your appreciation to the great service whether its tipping the right amount and 20, 30, to 100% more than what was expected, is on you.

I think it's only considered overtipping if you feel like you paid too much for the service you got. It's all up to you in the end. I've seen different people all tip different amounts for the same service/minimum/location and I believe they all tipped the perfect amount (exactly what they felt they should). As long as you're comfortable with your tip, then it's always going to be the perfect amount no matter what the numbers on the paper actually are.

You're the only person that can tell yourself if you have value for money when tipping be it a large or small amount.
