  • Marquee Question

Trying to reserve a table for Kaskade in August. I know it's a super high volume night and I have a few questions:

    1. The host said to get there by 10. I want to just send 1-2 people from our group (14 total) to hold down the table, and tell the other guys to roll in around 11-11:30. Is that a good idea? The host said they might have trouble getting in - if I tip the host or the door guy well, will they be fine? If so, what's a good amt. to tip?

    2. I know on the forums it said I should tip security. What's a good amount to tip, and what's the point of the tip?

    3. Anyone else we should tip besides security and host? I am tipping host about $350 for a 3k table, which leaves $50 for security.

Your busser or runner, whatever you want to call them. We usually tip around 20 or so for our table

Also, if youre tipping 350 to the host, 50 for security, and buying a 3k table I cannot see why they would have any trouble at the door.

Just make sure that you let the host know that you have people coming later, and have them go directly to him to get in. Also, make sure thy know exactly where to go. Even the table line at Marquee is crazy by 11-11:30.

I d make sure everyone got there early. Its not worth waiting at the door for hours to get in. On big nights like that, all tables are waiting. I have heard of people waiting 2 hours with 3-5k reservations. Better to be safe than sorry.

Weird that they told you to get there right when it opens. I know Kaskade gets crazy crowded but I didn't know it was THAT crowded.

Its happened to me at Marquee for Kaskade on a Saturday. Was planning on 11pm, host suggested 10.30, then texted night of to ask if we could get there any earlier because they were expecting it to be crazy...and wasn't wrong. Was a big table too with a host I have a good relationship with.

My advice is get everyone there early. If u can't do that, square with host if you can send one early to hold the fort, and is it ok if the troops are a bit Kate.

Unless you're talking about ldw weekend, in which case, get everyone there early..

Nope it's the Aug 18 show so we will make sure to get there before 10:30 for sure. Next questino, which I already posted in the tipping forum - I am fairly certain we're getting a cabana (will double check with host). I am trying to figure out what to tip - is there anything extra we could get by tipping higher? Because it sounds like all the cabanas are in one area, so if we have one, I can just tip the host a standard amount. Essentially, is there anything I should be trying to tip higher to get?

Yeah for a huge night like that you definitely want to arrive early since even the table line will be long. You can have just a few people check-in to guarantee table location, but the rest still need to arrive relatively early even if it's just to get stamped and come back later.

I know so many of you are going to disagree, but don't tip your host that much. You have a 3k table. you can only go 1 tier up from that, and the seating isnt much of a drastic change from 3 to a 5. the only thing a host might do is move you to a better table around when the club starts getting slower (2:45, 3am), they still have to get it approved: through management, otherwise they have no say in anything that goes down, they are merely sales people. You want to tip someone, tip your busser and or security, why because if you tip security you wont have to hear from them all night, you tip your busser you will never have to wait for one thing all night (carafes, matches, ashtrays, ice), . Vip hosts have little say in any nightclub, the only thing they are good for is getting you to the front of the line.

news to me...(you need to find new hosts by the sounds of it)

I do however agree with the tip your busser and security part though.

It doesn't seem likely that you could expect a table upgrade in this situation. That said, I would still tip generously...nothing crazy, but if you plan on going back to Marquee in the future it's good to have that little star next to your name in the host's phone indicating you're a good tipper. If you're comfortable with $300, then tip $300. If you can do more, then do more. Just make sure you have enough to tip security and runner at least $20/each at the beginning of the night. Your host CAN provide you with free drinks, and if they do this often makes the larger tip well worth it.

On tipping security, since you have a Cabana (which I assume is one of the MDC cabanas) I would highly recommend taking care of your security. Our security guard was great and would always walk people from my table right onto the dance floor during Party Rock Monday in addition to constantly sending girls to our table. When chatting with him later in the night we somehow got around to the issue of him getting tipped and he mentioned that we were the only table to tip him all night, so a little bit (we gave him ~60-80) goes a long way in that situation especially since you will be outside on a popular DJ night.

Tipping security can be worth it just for the escort to the front of the bathroom line.
