  • Best DJ's

On any given week in Vegas there are a wide array of DJ's spinning at many different clubs.
Everyone seems to flock to the big names like Avicii, Tiesto, Afrojack, etc. However, do you think these guys really
throw down the best sets? Or really even mix live? Some of them readily admit they push play
and dance around and not much more. So, if someone were looking for a DJ that actually mixes
live....who is at the top of YOUR list?
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

I love Vegas for other reasons than the music. IMO it is very commerical and guys like Avicii, Afrojack and even SHM are just playing up to the crowd with plug and play pieces of kit. I'm more of an underground man, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Carl Craig and Sasha to name but a few. Thats only mu opinion of course.

          I'm of the same opinion.

Does that scene exsist in Vegas?

They had EDC festival over there recently and I looked into the schedule and they had all the DJ's I would have liked to have seen at Drai's after hours club. Guys like Loco Dice, Sasha, Richie Hawtin, Luciano all played there which would have been good to see. 9 times out of 10, the crowds in Vegas flock to Avicii, Chuckie, Tiesto, Deadmau5, Afrojack etc when they are going to a club for a DJ. etc

Here's my recent favorites that I've seen DJ in Vegas last few months.

              Nicky Romero
              Hardwell
              Sander Van Doorn
              Zedd
              Armin Van Buren
              Bingo Players
              Benny Benassi
              Chuckie
              DJ Vice
              Calvin Harris
              Rusko

              Great Resident DJs:
              DJ Warren Peace
              DJ Lema
              DJ Mighty Mi

Was disappointed or not all impressed with:
Paul Oakenfold: maybe just not my style, it was too mellow for me.
Pauly D: basic DJ, nothing spectacular
Manufactured Superstars: I love their stuff, but the set was too chill that night.
Lil Jon: was ok, but not a DJ I'd go out of my way to see.

A DJ plays to the vibe of the club. The thing is, DJing is already pre-planned to the hour you play your set. So if the resident DJ starts out the night, theres hardly anyone there yet. So that DJ will play a certain type of music, mainly popular ones to get people going with familiar stuff. Once midnight hits, the club is filling up and getting ready for the MAIN headliner. That guy can pretty much play anything if he's a Tiesto, Avicii, etc and the crowd will react well. Theyre already drunk a bit, dancing, etc.

Its different with EDM vs Hip Hop music. EDM is basically fast beats, drops, etc that get people going. Most EDM will get the crowd going even if the people dont know the song. With Hip Hop, the vocals can throw off the vibe so it has to match the mood right. And if the song isnt familiar to people as they are filling up the club, its harder to get them dancing to it. So you'll hear the popular stuff way more in the beginning. When people are drunk in the middle of the night, the DJ can pretty much play whatever or even the same song played earlier in the night and most wont care. LOL.

Benny Benassi and Kristina Sky are my top 2 all-time favorites. Artys pretty spectacular, and there's ton of notable greats (just view the majority of Marquee's lineup each week to see amazing DJs). Those are my current top 2 I'll always go out of my way to see though.

I saw Lil Jon last year (with Laidback Luke and Aoki). If I NEVER see Lil Jon live again, it will be to soon. Way to much screaming into the microphone.
I hate when DJs grab the mic and say "Make some fucking noise Las Vegas" more than a couple of times per night.

I like the big name dj nights. I usually go to Vegas on the big holiday weekends for that specific reason. Big names have the big hits and to be in Vegas an hear them live in some of the best clubs in the world is what it's all about. I've seen tiesto like 15 times and he never disappoints. Guetta has so many songs he doesnt even need to play anyone else. Avicii has seek bromance! Lol. I like a bunch of other guys, too. Oh, not deadma5. He was lame last time.

Best "regular" DJ's in Vegas: Eric Dlux and Vice.

Vegas hasn't caught up with house music yet, that's why it's stil big names (some of whom are quality).

But, I'd go for Drais for a bit of a funkier sound. Not sure if the DJ is well know, but the genre matches what i like.

Not really into all of the "press and play" producers that try to DJ but they do bring good crowds.

Really digged Arty's set a couple weeks ago. 3Lau made his debut at Marquee at that same time too. Loved it but place wasnt that packed though because everyone was at EBC for Tiesto. Haha

Porter Robinson, dirty south, Sultan/Ned, and Axwell to name a few.

For hip/hop I like Vice, D-Lux, Homicide. BUt those might be the only guys that DJ hip hop in Vegas now. Haha.

LOL! Couldnt agree more! Was gonna go to Surrender a couple weeks ago to see him, assuming he played hiphop/top 40. Then I listened to the Surrender podcast and all this dude does is yell on the mic and play horrible LMFAO songs. smh.

They need to get a better hip-hop DJ for those nights. Lil Jon hasnt been relevant since that Dave Chappelle skit.
