Sorta agree. Not sure force fed is the right word. More like what's "hip" right now. Really intrigued to see how long this will last in Vegas. It was only a few years ago when every club was just playing hip-hop. EDM was usually reserved for events like EDC or other rave venues.

I couldnt disagree with this enough. DJs are booked and the people are attending the club because of who is DJ'ing. Therefore they should have an understanding of what the DJ is expected to play. This 'throwing money about' to play a certain genre of music is utter bullshit and most DJ's would walk off in this scenario. It is Vegas right enough, but in Ibiza, where the DJs obviously have a lot more respect, this would never happen.
The vast majority of people are not at a pool party because of the DJ... most are just there to party. Dayclubs book big names to make it seem important and to draw in maybe another 10-20% of people. But the majority of people there just want good music to dance to and drink to.... they could really care less if it is deadmau5 or my uncle Bob DJ'ing once they are in the club and it is slamming and they are having a good time. DJ's need to realize this when booking gigs.

I have a buddy that plays in a band here at home and they turn down gigs all the time because it isn't what they want to play. If DJ's only want to play their music then they need to be selective on what they book.

Yeah it's not just Vegas...flip back and forth between a "Top 20" station and an EDM station on Sirius/XM....they're starting to sound VERY similar.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

I think dayclubs and clubs need to be careful who they are booking because alot of DJs just won't tolerate being told what to play just because someone who is dropping a lot of cash is in the establishment. They can quite easily make their money elsewhere in an environment where people are there to hear what the DJ wants to play.

I'll be honest when I first started going to Vegas the only pool party around was Rehab. They played a mix of everything from hip hop, house, to rock. It was an awesome time, and my friends and I just wanted to party at the pool. These days though, I go to specific day clubs/night clubs based on who is the DJ because I'm interested in hearing that particular type of music. I think there are different venues out there that play different music. If you know a house DJ is going to be at a particular spot that is the music you should expect to hear. I think it really is that simple. This is Vegas, not some regular night club in some regular town that is going to cater to the crowd. I'm not going to Marquee to see Kaskade and screaming out for him to play some Guns N' Roses. If I want to hear Guns N' Roses I'll go see them in concert, or go to a bar that plays rock music. Just like I won't go to a Jay-Z concert and scream out for him to drop some Avicii into his set.

^If that's the case, please point me in the direction of the dayclub that plays straight hip hop please I understand what you mean, but the choices for dayclubs are limited. There has been a shift it seems into making these parties into mini concerts with celeb dj's though, so I see your point.

Unfortunately for the casual EDM fan true "house" music such as Mark Farina plays would probably come across as too mellow for a pool party that's trying to get raging. The currently popular electronic music we're hearing on the radio is surely not traditional house music and more of a mix of electro/techno/dubsteb. Mark Farina is great and should get heads bobbin... but probably wouldn't get fists pumping

As long as he got paid, it doesn't matter IMO.

I think it's in poor taste to bump a DJ during or before his set, but ultimately if he got paid, meh. I am curious to see what would happen if a big spender came to see that DJ and then they get bumped. How does the club handle that?

EDM is what's hot now. With the steady decline of hip hop EDM has picked up the slack as "party" music nationwide but it's just magnified in Vegas.

Personally hip-hop is still #1 to me but I've grown to enjoy more mainstream EDM and definitely prefer it to most top 40 stuff for what I want to hear at clubs and pool parties.

Not to mention Flo Rida's (and others) are all using EDM samples for their hit tracks now.

ehhh. lol. Mainstream EDM will work at the dayclubs. That will be accepted by non EDM fans. What the general public will know are the David Guetta's, Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack and Avicii since they have crossed over to regular radio stations or have been in the scene long enough to be known by others outside the EDM scene.

I dont expect people that dont know the EDM scene to know about Hardwell, ZEDD, Nicky Romero, Sander Van Doorn, Chuckie, etc. So people could be surprised when they get on and end up not hearing the house music they are familiar with. Theyre waiting for radio hits to come on but it can go both ways. They could either embrace the new sound or be annoyed its something too different to their tastes.

BTW, I cant stand the Flo-Rida version of Wild Ones. haha. I like the one with Nicky Romero mix better. LOL

I don't mind hearing Flo-Rida in the club but I refuse to call him hip-hop. He's what I call pop rap. Same category as Pitbull lol.

I don't mind the marriage though. Miami 2 Ibiza was my favorite song for months haha

I was there, and this is actually exactly what happened. Everyone was trying to rage and get crazy in Vegas, but the set was super mellow and putting people to sleep and just plain boring. Nothing against Mark Farina, he's an amazing DJ in every sense of the word, it just ended up not being a fitting set for the time and place.
