  • Mark Farina booted out of his dj set at Marquee Day Club?

I heard Mark Farina was booted out his dj set at Marquee Day Club yesterday for playing too much "real house
music". Shouldn't the promoter know the style of the DJ before they book? Not sure if it's true that the people getting table service had complaints about the music played a role in this. I mean you can't expect Mark Farina to play Levels and Greyhound! I'm not dissing on those songs. Just saying every dj has their own style. Respect it!

Can anybody that was there provide any scoop on what really went down?

Weird! Would be very interesting to hear the in-person perspective....

    Mark Farina ‏@djmarkfarina
My liaison said manager was getting complaints from their table service crowd.

Farina isn't a bad idea, just not on a Saturday at MDC. Maybe a well-promoted Thursday where it's more relaxed. The one time I went to Tao Beach was a Monday and it was a decent crowd, and the DJ was playing true house (this was 2010). The vibe was great. It can work, just needs a little more forethought.

Wow, that is pretty tough. I personally would have enjoyed to see him on a Saturday, but I guess he isn't mainstream enough.

I really like MDC and Marquee in general, but this is embarrassing. Farina is a legend. Don't book the guy if you think there will be an issue, but to pull him off...wow.

Yeah i agree. I dont think its anything to do with being "too much real house" i just think his stlye is not suited to a saturday pool party. t

I dono if that's the case, Farina plays some pretty sexy, funky, chunky beats that I think go really really well with a pool party. However, the bottle service crowd at Marquee wants to hear the hits.

I respect Marquee for booking the likes of Fatboy Slim, Aeroplane, Farina, Migs, etc....the best times ive ever had in Vegas were with Fatboy and Chuckie at Marquee. However, know your crowd, and at the very minimum...respect the DJs you book.

I think Mark should have dropped some commercial house tracks with remixes that no one has ever herd of. that would have given the ppl what they wanted and still had his style in it.

i agree with ppl that I dont expect him to drop hardwell, axwell remixes but i guess its a double edged sword. He should have been prepared for the crowd that was going to be there, but then Marquee also knows his style...

Thats weak. Sucks people booed him off. I bet most of those people arent even true house/edm fans. So they were expecting the "hits" to be played. But of course each DJ has their own style and can't always play to what the crowd only likes to hear.

I know many DJ friends and they know their job is to play to the needs of the crowd, the timing as they come in and timing of certain music as they want them to get out of the club, etc. So they are somewhat limited to what they really can play so they dont always get to really play what they want.

Mark Farina was probably just too mellow for MDC. They wanted hard drops and all that based on what they hear lately. Marquee should have known that and booked accordingly. Maybe a weekday MDC he would have been better match?, but not on Saturday.

There must have been some really heavy-hitters in the bottle service crowd to get a name-brand DJ booted out. I highly doubt they remove the DJ based on complaints from an average Joe bottle service patron.

No need for anyone to take things personal. It's just business. A decision was made and thats it. Life goes on.

looks like a certain cabana that day spent over $50k in B/S and requested if the DJ can play more hits.

Theoretical question... Another cabana is dropping the same amount of money and says if he goes they go. What happens then? lol
