Taking the Fear out of GA

Many of the questions from Noobs seem to be related to GA to a club and the fear of not getting in. Television, movies, "VIP" hosting companies, and even this site can make the GA process seem down right intimidating. Even though it's not really. That said, can everyone share a time when you were denied GA, the reason, and what you could have done differently to overcome the obstacle for not getting in. Also, if you've never been denied, please share your winning approach.

I'll start with a FAIL...

Venue: Tao
Group: 2 Ladies 2 Guys (all ignorant)
Reason: 1 of the ladies was waaaay to fucked up
Remedy: Get primed, but not completely wasted before the club

Venue: XS
Group: 3 guys, 1 girl
Reason: Of of the guys showed up in jeans and a white v-neck t shirt.
Remedy: If you're worried about attire, just wear something collared. Especially with an uneven guy/girl ratio. This isn't always required, but it gives you a lot better advantage.

3 guys in line told we needed girls, huh? This was a first but also back in 2007 when Tao was significant (just kidding)

We convinced a couple girls to join us in line, all good and we wait 30 minutes finally getting to the front I'm just finishing off my corona. I notice My friend who is in the very front of the line and near a garbage can so I hand it over and ask if he could toss it in the trash. He took my words to literally and attempted a Kobe Bryant brickshot. Missed the garbage can glass shatters on the floor, we get kicked out of line and set off for tryst. We never looked back .

Never done GA, but was denied trying to grease at Jet one time. The host (Sergio) thought these big girls standing next to me were with me, and told me I needed more more than a bill. I turned around to the girls I was actually with, and told them we were leaving. He grabbed me as we were leaving, and told me a bill would be fine, but he was dick the whole time, so I declined. Went over to Tao, and didnt even get a chance to grease. A host grabbed us right when we walked up, and brought us in. Of course, I tipped him anyways.

Ive always done G/L or Grease.

So...lessons learned so far:

1. Make sure you're not fall down drunk when you arrive
2. Wear a collared shirt
3. Don't throw bottles while in line
4. Keep your ladies displayed in front of you at all times

Tao last spring. 4 guys, no girls. We were on the Guestlist (but not for a table).
My buddy was wearing a shirt that we all made fun of before we left (best way to describe would be a cotton shirt with a collar and a few buttons. He is tatted and I think he was trying to show off his ink). He was also wearing "borderline" shoes. One or the other would have been fine, but with both, he had to go home and change.
The other 3 of us grabbed 5 girls and walked in with no problem.
They did let my buddy back in after a quick wardrobe change.

Lesson - When it doubt, wear a button down shirt and nice shoes. And if you are all dudes, find some girls in line. It's not that hard.

some of my quick tips

keep your groups smaller, herds are going to be tougher to get through GA.

Get the women on a guest-list and see if they let the guys tag along, its not foolproof but it has worked

get their earlier than you'd expect...if you get there before the madness of 11:30-1:00 crush it will be less chaos. Also less risk of the club being at capactiy - and if nothing else, getting there early as a GA can allow you to claim some space that is not roped off for table service. If you're late its going to be dance floor or bathroom for GA space.

I used to agree with going in before1130-1am madness but with the introduction of EDM DJs at the Tier 1 clubs, I'd try to be in line before 10, especially @ marquee, even EARLIER on big holidays. (For GA anyway)

For Tier 1 clubs on huge holidays, I'd just try to do pre-sale tix, bottle service, or contact the hosts who can be found from here.

keeping my composure while totally trashed has been my gift, so pregaming hard before getting in line has never been an issue.

for example I was passenger when my buddy got busted for dui. they thought I was good enough to drive his car but tested me just to be safe. I blew a .18 lol. they said I was so composed and polite I wasn't gonna be cited for drunk in public, and let me go and take a taxi haha

My Fail:

Since I have had many I will point out one that lead to me learn a life lesson..

I had been winning at blackjack and was only about 100 up (yeah not much but I never really gamble) and I was feeling on top of the world. Did I mention I was 21 at the time.. So anyways my girl drags me off the table and tells me that me + her 4 friends are going to LAX and I am coming with.

So I wait in line, and one of the girls had gotten a few no cover passes. Which was nice, because I was a broke shit at the time. After waiting about 15 min (which in retrospect was not long at all) I get to the bouncer who makes some snide comment about me looking 13, which I take immediate offense too. I hand him my free entry card and he is like "No, this is for before midnight" I pull out my phone its 12:01... I launch into some pissy tirade about it being bullshit and I if he was not an ass to me it would have been 12am anyways."

I mouthed off and we all were denied.

Yeah, lesson for the night. Tread softly, don't take offense to everything, and be nice. Those 5 girls ripped me a new one after we had to wait for a hour to get into Tao after that.

I think I became a much more subdued person at that point.

one of the first clubs i went to was haze. we were like the 4th ones in line and got those passes from one of the promoters...worked, no cover. I try to always be there by 10:15 if on guestlist. I normally do handshakes though.

Went GA at Marquee for Erik Morillo. 5 guys, 1 girl. We were staying at Vdara so we got there super early and completely sober like at 915. Lol. Got in as soon as it opened, got stamped and went back to our room to drink.

Came back drunk at midnight when it was poppin, and went right in the re-entry line.

Lesson: If you're worried about GA then get there real early and come back later buzzed.
