This has been vexing me for a little while now maybe someone can shed some light...

A typical bottle is 1L and a Magnum is 1.5L yet a magnum is usually just about double the price of a 1L. Is there a reason? Or is it just a matter of looking more cool b/c you have a giant bottle of vodka?

From what I know, a standard bottle is 750ml, at least from all of my drinking experiences. I've rarely found a place that did 1L bottles of liquor. I believe the magnum Chad is referring to is 1.75L for hard alcohol which is what you see in liquor/grocery stores. In terms of wine 750ml is standard and 1.5L is considered a magnum.

The Palm's hosts indicated they have 1L bottles, so I think that is where that info is coming from.

standard size for 'standard' bottles (goose, belvedere, crown etc..) at most clubs is 1L. 'Mags' are 1.75L. Note, champagne follows normal sizing everywhere of 750 standard, 1.5L mag etc..

The more exotic drinks will be 750ml bottles (JW Blue, Macallan 18yr etc..). Some clubs do a good job of identifying which is 1L/750ml on the menu (XS, Tryst), other's don't.

If you're concerned about what a particular bottle size will be at a particular club, check with a host or post here and I'm sure you'll get a definitive answer.

Coming back to the underlying question - is it better value to buy bigger bottles.....no.

So why do people do it? Either a) bad at math b) they want more 'table cred' or c) got a really big group and/or big minimum table, so f*** it, it's easier just ordering big bottles..

and all the servers bring out the flashy lights and let everyone in the club know you just bought a huge bottle of alcohol

The "hey look at me" factor for sure.

Dang it. I was going to let my sweet matching ed hardy shirt, hat, jeans, shoes, beach towel, lighter, chess set, shot glasses do that for me... oh well.

The places I've been to (mainly in CA) normally do 750's as the standard bottle and on their menu indicate 1L when it's different from standard. Going back to Boags point, it would be wiser to stick to 1L bottles since the 1.75L costs more than double!? Better off getting more alcohol for your buck.

All the times Ive had bottle service in Vegas the bottles are 1liter. In SF, Ive seen 750ml.
