We almost always hit downtown for an afternoon / early evening adventure. Only nightlife I'm interested at all in checking out is a retro bar/arcade called Insert Coin(s)
downtown is a great alternative more lounge'y though, if there check out insert coins a bottle service friendly club where you can play any video game you desire, or Griffen a low lit lounge filled with hipsters and indie house music. also a couple other spots, in the other direction check out town square, more local friendly but if your ballin on a budget Blue Martini is a great spot or Nu Sancutuary
U just changed my life. That is gonna be a DEFINITE stop for me!!! Im thinking like 3ish til 6 or so. Thank u!!!
No worries - the group I'm going with in May are a bunch of retro-gaming dorks like me, so blending DJ music, hip lounge atmosphere, and video games of all sorts is right up our alley. We're definitely going to hit this place at some point - probably mid afternoon / early evening.
Its going to be tough - I want to hit as many of the mAyOD events as possible, but not everyone in my group is AOD material (I don't think), so I'll be splitting time.
Downtown is a must once in a while. I used to go there all the time for the cheap craps. Oh, and the Griffin and beauty bar are favs of mine. Don't go so much now that I live in SF and we have millions of small character bars.. but Fremont is a whole different vegas =)
I'm probably as big of an advocate as there is for going downtown and have made it there for at least an afternoon (or full day/night) on about 75% of my trips to Vegas since I started going in 2000.
It's a totally different vibe downtown. Very cheap drinking, very cheap gambling, not near as many people who are there strictly to be seen and a total change of pace from nightlife on the strip.
I also recommend The Griffin. A lot of times they play some serious retro soul back in their back room and it can be a lot of fun in there. It's also an outstanding day drinking spot with a decent selection of good beers.
People sleep on downtown. Especially in the spring. The money you would spend for a pool party on a friday or saturday would go much further downtown.
As for meeting members of the opposite sex, never an issue but you generally meet along Fremont street or at a table or Video Poker bar. So, you have to be able to talk.
I been to beauty bar several times and usually go there every trip due to few local friends (who are hipster/indie rock type) and knows lot of people in Las Vegas band scene (they hangout here a lot). No different than my local bars here (other than decor is like 70-80's beauty salon) but drinks were cheap and it was a break from the strip plus my local friends not a fan of strip at all so it is always good to hangout with them there.
