  • Afrojack or Calvin Harris

    I'm really torn. Jan 14 Afrojack at XS, Calvin Harris at Surrender. I assume table minimums will be pretty high for both. Which one would you pump your fist to?? Afrojack put on one of the best shows I've ever seen in my life at Lollapalooza and Calvin Harris has been producing club bangers left and right lately....Kascade also at Marquee that night. So many choices.

    Also Aoki (surrender) or Chuckie (marquee) on Friday....guess these are good problems to have.

    Why not both,
    I know the 11th Afrojack is at Surrender too... Not sure your trip dates but if you can be there 11th-15th you can catch both guys... and maybe work out a deal for both shows, Mikey could probably get you more info on it all

        I agree with Mikey... If you've seen Afrojack, definitely go see Calvin Harris. People disagree with me often, but I also like going to Surrender more than XS.

          think Calvin Harris is spinning at XS on Monday as well, so depending what nights you're there, you might be able to do both.

          and +1 on Surrender over XS..

            Here's my review on Calvin; I played at the same festival he was at on the weekend in aus; I went back stage of hIs set and watched;
            He does very very little; plays some early stuff, not many drops, closes on new things like bounce etc.

            Music wise for dancing etc i would def go Afrojack.

              Very true. Seen them all multiple times live (except Kaskade) and here's my 2 cents: since you mentioned fist pumps, I'd have to give a slight edge to Afrojack. Don't get me wrong, Calvin is one of my favorites, but I'd say maybe a better producer vs. live DJ. As for Aoki and Chuckie - remember Aoki's roots (harder edge, almost a rock/metal sound to a bunch of his tracks - not as much my thing). And Chuckie is so sick with his drops, you'll literally be jumping the whole night. That's the "Dirty Dutch" house sound for ya, just like Afro.

              ...come to think of it, now I'm jealous of you being there that weekend
              Nothing interesting to add here...

                Both beasts but +1 to Calvin. You've seen Afro already. Have a great time.

                  Calvin over Afro if I had to choose. Seen Afro one too many times this past year. Besides I still have this bitterness towards him for putting down A&B at EDC. But... wuttever floats your boat.

                    Kaskade is at Marquee on the 14th too, so now who wins?

                      I've seen them all multiple times, including some nights in these same clubs. Afrojack throws it dooown and XS is an awesome venue for him to do work. That's where I'll be on Saturday fist pumping all night.

                          I've seen both DJ's live, Calvin Harris once and Afrojack 4 times. Both different style DJ's and afrojack recently changed his style to incorporate mashups putting acapellas in with his setlist. It really is something to check out. Seen this new style twice, once as recent as new years day at XS. Calvin Harris is fluid and smooth, I think to me though he serves better as an opening DJ rather than a main act. Definitely see them both but between the two i'd choose Afrojack.
