  • Industy question: good nights out but working too

My friend and I are visiting Vegas from 16 Jan thru 22 Jan. We're both mid-late 30s, and my friend is marketing & PR manager for one of the biggest clubs in Ireland.

We're planning on checking out a few clubs in Vegas, obviously he has a professional interest - it's what he does, and is keen to get a look around to see what is going on in Vegas clubs. I'm less interested in the workings of everything - I just enjoy a good night out!

So what we're wondering is what would be a good selection of clubs to check out in terms of getting a good idea of latest innovations in Vegas clubbing? Any amazing new sound/light systems, any must see clubs? (I know, I should have got him to do the post given he's the industry guy - I'm just a journalist but I know from when I did a travel piece on Vegas it helps to ask in advance).

Wondering if anyone on here has any suggestions? Also wondering how busy the clubs are likely to be this time of year? Are we going to have to look at getting bottle service to get in to most places (guessing the best places will be difficult to walk straight into which could get expensive, given there's just the two of us) or are we better just popping along?

Alternatively, anywhere that is overhyped and not worth bothering with?

The club plays a mixture of music depending on which night of the week it is, from commercial to more specialist, but is very much geared towards 18-30 year-old crowds, and has hosted private parties (not PAs) for all sorts from Gaga to Rihanna (which probably isn't that big a deal in Vegas, but for a club in Ireland shows you're doing something right).

    Any thoughts or suggestions welcomed.

    Cheers

Thanks for the tips guys. Are the clubs all pretty much the same in terms of sound and light systems? Or do one or two stand out above some of the others?

I imagine the newer/most recently remodelled to have the most up to date, but is that always the case? Or do they just dress them up and leave the nuts and bolts as they are?

        Thanks

Marquee will have the best sound IMO, although I've heard Crown and 1Oak have pretty killer sound systems.

Marquee & Moon have the most basseous crisp club sound.

I'm surprised Dnix didn't suggest XS. I'd say XS is a must visit club. I think your friend will like it. I personally liked Surrender a lot, but I'd throw Tryst, Marquee, and Tao on that list as well. I don't know what kind of venue your friend works at, but these are HUGE clubs (by comparison, Tryst and Tao are a little smaller but still large). XS is massive, beautiful, and has a pool with a casino area inside the pool. Surrender is very large as well (2000 person capacity?). IMO, these are clubs that stand out among Vegas clubs, which themselves probably stand out among Irish clubs

If you have time, and you're there, check out GBDC at the Palms on Saturday daytime. It's very small, but it's 55 stories in the air and the party they put on is pretty cool. Very energetic.

You'll see many clubs mentioned a few times over and there's a reason for that. If you haven't been there in a while, your curiosity may have you wondering why so many other clubs don't get the same recognition (Rok, Pure, Cathouse, Nikki/or whatever it's called, LAX, Bank, etc). There's a reason. You can have fun wherever you go, but the opinion of the masses will be these top clubs. Have fun and let us know how it goes.
That being said, if you're asking if it can be done, you're probably not at the level where you could pull it off.

You want to be at the club where girls want to be... not where guys get good bottle deals.

Thanks for the further suggestions all. I think my friend's club has a capacity of around 1,000-1,200 maybe. It's around 20,000 sq ft so it's a decent size, although not sure how that compares to Vegas club footprints.

Really looking forward to it now as it's just a few days to go before we head over, although afraid I'll need a vacation to get over this one!

Going to try to work out a plan of attack over the next couple of days...how easy is it to move from one club to another on the same night, or is it best just to stay put once you're in one?

It can be done but sometimes it's tricky ie if there is a major at the club you're going to. There is a time (I think it's about 23:00 to 02:00) which is the worst for trying to move between clubs. But depending on who is playing the club, and if you grease, it is doable to go from club to club. The biggest thing you have is just the distance between clubs (it's a lot of walking and then cabs and then more walking). And remember, women that are with you in heels can't walk that much. (Side note XS is 40,000 sf)
