  • Intro and advice - real house music

JC noob here, seeking some advice and input.

So back in the day, what seems like a lifetime ago, I was involved in "the scene". I was a resident DJ at several clubs in SF, and spun in Vegas about 5-6 times. This was about 9-10 years ago at several places like Utopia, some after hours Strip Club (Rhino?), Drai's (did half a set one night ), and a few other places that are all a bit foggy...most of my days/nights there were quite a blur I guess I was an "industry guy" since I never paid for anything, or had to wait in a line, etc when attending a club. I either knew someone or knew someone who knew someone. Cut to 10 years, and one kid, later and I have no more contacts or in-roads in LV. I am totally out of the loop. So here is my question for you fine folks...

...I have a business trip this coming Wed-Fri (so Weds or Thurs night) and was hoping to hear some good house music (if possible). Any recommendations? Do not like hip-hop, top-40, and not a fan of Trance - I'm looking for more house/deep house/tech house if at all possible. Does this exist in Vegas anymore?

Also, I'll have my hot-ass girl with me so I'm not looking to impress or "live large" with table/bottle service. Just a place to hear some good EDM, dance, people watch, have a good time, etc. Are promoters the way to go?

    Thank you much!

Of course that exists, have you checked out Artisan or Drais after hours? Thats when the "real" non-commercialized stuff kicks into full gear!

      Thanks for the quick response.

I do remember Drais got pretty nasty (in a good way) on the weekends, but on a Weds or Thurs? I've never been to Artisan (I don't think it existed back in the day). Is it similar to Drais?

Any advice on the easiest way to get hooked up at either place? I know I sound like a total newbie, but I never had to "work" at getting in somewhere before, so not sure how to even go about it. I guess that makes me sound like a snob, but I assure you I'm not. I'm just a real friendly guy who used to have connections...in a former life.

Sweet...that's what I'm talking about brother! Which night would be better Weds or Thurs? Should we use a promoter or just walk up? Any tips for entrance? I don't mind tipping if necessary.

So any recommendations for Thursday night? Open to whatever at this point as long as the music is EDM, not hip hop or top40.

Darryll, I appreciate all the help. It's kind of sad how out of "it" I am so I'm glad you are willing to help. We owe you a drink brother.

Hmm I think Drais might be open Thurs night I m not 100% sure on that way. I know Artisan is definitely open during mid week. Both parties last well into 8am "ibiza style" as I call it

Drais is openj on Thursday nights, that's when we usually go there, but the party thins/dies out earlier than the weekend.

Huge fan of Drais but have heard great things about the Artisan, so hitting that up in Feb on a non-Drais night.

Drais is still the King of afterhours thanks to DJ Chris Garcia but Artisan is a close second...I miss Seamless though!
