What is a trip to Vegas worth? In Time & Money...

So you're up for a spontaneous trip to Vegas. You live within a 12 hour drive or 8 hour flight, you're sober so you can do the math, and you realize you'll only have 10 hours in the city...

Basically the question is this: How much travel time vs. actual time in the city would warrant the trip? Also - if you're doing a last minute flight or drive - make sure to weigh in the cost of travel as well. (Frequent flyer miles do have a cost too guys!)

This comes from a thread Warren posted coupled with a trip I recently made to Boston. Basics: Took me 12 hours round trip air travel and I spent 24 hours there - so to me that made sense. (Yeah it was to see a girl...)

I'm 2 hour flight (Eugne, OR) on Allegiant Air (Fri-Mon), so it's pretty easy and cheap for me. I'll fly outta Portland sometimes too, but that only adds 1/2 hour.

So basically for 5 hours of travel, I get 3 nights in Vegas, so it's well worth it for me. I'd think the min I'd go is 48 hours just based on airfare/hotel vs cost.

BTW, any excuse to go to Boston is worth it!!! (Grew up in Lexington, 20 West of Boston)....

If i was spending less than $500 without gambling for a total random trip, it would be ok. I've done a drive that I just went to LV for dinner and to check some fitment on a new product we made and instead of driving straight back to LA, we just ended up getting a room and hit up Marquee at around 11pm. woke up and drove back home by 10am.
Its different if living in Socal since we can go more often. If I had to spend more than $500 on a spontaneous trip to Vegas, I'd have to think about that twice since we go so often and I have to budget myself. I had only planned 3 trips to Vegas between May and Sept this year, but ended up going 8 times so it does add up.

I dont think I can spend alot on a spontaneous trip. I'd rather spend it when I have more time and make it alot more worth while.

In comparison to your Boston trip, maybe work trips arent comparable. I'm flying to Orlando red eye from LA and get there 7am. I'm there for a couple meetings and going to Miami for the afternoon/night and I fly out the next morning to Vegas. Work and sometimes women are worth it to do a short trip. I dont know if I"d spend that much with plane fare for less than a day stay in Vegas.

Yesterday day at work I got so heated with my boss I said fuck it I'm going to Vegas fOr my birthday, 1 night be back in time to go to a concert front row with the girlfriend thursday nigh...southwest has $38 flights. Called the boys it was on. Only problem was the flight went from $38 on Sunday to $131 on monday
The group lost a couple soldiers but long story short tomorrow when I get off work early I'll be on my way to vegas, stayin at the Wynn

Its a 4 hour flight for me, but honestly thats not bad since I routinely fly to Europe (8 hours) and Asia (minimum of 14). I would have to agree that its really not worth flying out though unless I am staying 48 hours. Airfare from Wisconsin to _anywhere_ isn't cheap. Plus then theres gambling/hotel/food, so 48 hours would be about the minimum for fun to balance the rest out. 1700 miles if I drove...and at that point I Would probably never come back! =)

I'm from Wisco too and usually we do two 6-8 days/nights instead of 4/5 short trips a year.

Driving is out of the question.
Flights (if you hunt for a deal) are generally around $225-$275 (+bags)

One thing that would kill me about a 2-3/long weekend trip is if you're sick, hungover, etc etc for even 1 night thats like 33%-50% of your trip shot in the ass.

I like the 6-8 days (including travel days) because you can go at it reaaaallly hard for a few days straight, take a break for a day and get back at it... there is a nice little buffer where one case of bad food or toooo much booze won't ruin the whole thing

I'm from South Fl (5 hour trip each way) and made the trip out a couple times for only 24 to 36 hours and it is well worth it. You realize your only there for a limited amount of time so you definitely pack that trip in with everything u want to do. An added bonus is that you are not a zombie like you are after a 3 night or 4 night trip.

i can usually get $110 OTD flights from SFO.. so i guess the min I trip i would go for is 15 hrs or so. I could see my self flying in at 8pm and then out again at noon.

My longest trip was 6 days (waaaay to long) and my shortest was about 9 hours of insanity. I

My trip was well worth it because I took 2 virgins and I personally only spent about $300-$400. Aaaaaaaaand I didn't do any of the driving except in Vegas

i've gone to vegas for 1 day for a concert and then back home. its a 5 hour flight from hawaii. vegas is always worth it to me because no matter what time you get there its always poppin'.
