yes there are far better places to consider but it really depends on your budget and what you're willing to spend on hotel. some ppl tend not to care where they sleep and would rather spend their money at the pools and clubs. so its really a matter of preference.
We got the hotel as a package deal with Virgin. We stayed there in 2007 and really liked it, hoping it will be just as good this time around. Will the weather be good that time of year ? Is it right that its in March the pool parties start ?
Depending on what clubs or restaurants you have planned as well, you might save some money on cab fares/transportation that could go to other hotels mid strip.
It all depends on what the game plan is vs the budget vs location desire.
We did mine this past July and we were about location and the room was only going to be used at night to crash for a few hours. Due to the large group that went we took up Harrah's as the spot as 3 of us got comped rooms and we had 9 rooms total for this round.
Centrally located and access to the spots we were looking for fairly quickly via cab, limo or the monorail that goes to multiple hotels along the strip. Starts at MGM and goes north and returns south back to MGM.
I stayed in Luxor 5 years ago and my only complaint is location. Down at the south end of the strip which will require cab rides to all of the new pools and most clubs unless you are planning on going to Mandalay Bay if Wet Republic is open and Light which from what I heard is insane, never got there during this trip.
Happily sponsoring the Las Vegas economy since July 1996
I've been to Vegas a couple times for my bday in mid-March and the weather was nice. Just got back last night from a bachelor party. The majority of the group stayed at Luxor, some of us stayed at Mandalay. Light @ Mandalay is probably the hottest club in Vegas right now and it's about a 6 minute (indoor) walk from Luxor.
In terms of getting around, you can take a cab to Cosmo for about $10 to get you more centralized on the strip. Cab money will add up fast, so to save money I'd take the free tram that runs from Mandalay><Luxor><Excalibur, then walk to the monorail station at MGM. You can get a 3-day pass on the strip monorail at a pretty good price.
If you don't want to worry about being too far south on the strip, look into prices for Flamingo or suites at PH.
Thanks everyone for your input. We have no plans on where to go yet, prob start trying to get a plan together at the start of the new year. Its all booked now so the Luxor it is. Be good if the Mandalay club is still a good place to go in March. We arrive on a Thurs and from what Ive read so far the weekend seems to start on a Thurs night.
Any recommendations or places that are a must we should be considering ? Its 219 days and I seriously cant wait !!
