I am moving to Vegas early next year from the D.C. area. I mainly have experience in the service industry. I have serving and bar tending experience and currently work as a bartender and more recently as a promoter here in D.C. I have big plans for Vegas and would love to hit the ground running. I guess I'm just hoping to make a few friends here in advance and soak up any advice I can get before coming.
Moving to Vegas early next year! Would love to make some contacts and get advice!

If you are looking to get work, make sure you are here in January/early Feb, that's when most companies will start hiring mainly for pools and for the summer travel season. Hit me up if you need anything. It's totally different type of industry than any other city so best thing I can say is come in with a clear head and learn, don't even worry about what you already know/who you already know, etc... and forget that dreaded.. "well back home in .... we did it like this" Don't bring that one... Hope this helps.Originally posted by d love View PostI am moving to Vegas early next year from the D.C. area. I feel Vegas drawing me in like a magnet! I am coming with an open mind and just want to be a part of it all. I feel like I had a vision and I'm meant to do this lol. Anyway,...yeah I would love any help/advice you can give me! I was hoping to find work as a bartender, I understand I would need a Tam car, health card and Sheriff's card so I'm trying to learn what those are and how quickly I can procure them once I arrive. One day I would love to be a host like yourself,...that is the dream. Anyway,...its possible I might be able to move my plans up for a Jan/Feb arrival, it will just take some hustling.Originally posted by kazflair View PostIf you are looking to get work, make sure you are here in January/early Feb, that's when most companies will start hiring mainly for pools and for the summer travel season. You get those after you get hired. The big clubs will test you on pouring and making drinks with their mixologist (atleast at our Aria venues they do, hence, most start as a bar back then work up to pour) Even if you're a bartender in another city, you still need training /testing with the company/club, I'm speaking strictly for the clubs on the strip, not the regular bars /restaurants in the cityOriginally posted by d love View PostI feel Vegas drawing me in like a magnet! How hard is it to get a bar tending job at a good club? I am willing to start as a bar back of course. I have about a year and a half experience and consider myself a beginner still but I have a lot of enthusiasm, love the job and am a hard worker. I will be driving out in a week or two and jumping right in at the deep end (never even been to Vegas). Originally I had planned on a March arrival but based on your earlier advice I shifted my plans to shoot for a late Jan/early Feb and have been working my ass off to get ready in time and get out there as soon as possible. I am determined one way or the other and I'll take whatever work I can end up getting but I would really love to try and get a job at a good club and learn to do Vegas the right way. Thanks for the advice you have already given me and thanks for any additional tips you (or anyone else) might have.Originally posted by kazflair View PostIf you are looking to get work, make sure you are here in January/early Feb, that's when most companies will start hiring mainly for pools and for the summer travel season. I should be in Vegas for the last week of Jan,...making the drive out in my car from D.C. with all my stuff in about a week or two. Can't wait to join the party! - Dashiell

You're going to miss quite a few auditions, I think they start next week. Look on facebook at the clubs pages, most are posting audition dates.Originally posted by d love View PostHow hard is it to get a bar tending job at a good club?
