  • International Mobile Phone Advice

    Hey,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for maybe a cheap phone or SIM Card I can pick up when me and my GF get to the US in a few weeks time.

The last time I was in vegas I didn't really bother and just used my Australian phone and turned off data roaming and contacted friends and family via FB when I got WIFI access.

This time I'll be in the US for 4-5 weeks and plan on splitting a few tables and its obviously going to be easier to contact the table organiser/hosts if I have a local number rather than trying to rely on WIFI access(WhatsApp, FB & iMessage).

    Thoughts?

Places like Walmart have basic flip phones with about $30 credit for ~79. Obviously only good for calls and texts and basic web surfing
EastCoast: "I will preach. Vegas is easy. So easy. Either be rich or good looking (or mooch off someone who is one of those). If you are neither, then sit back, let the rich and/or good looking people sort their shit out, and then take their scraps. Booking early is not going to get you ahead of the rich and/or good looking people. Sucks unless you are rich or good looking. But that's what makes Vegas so great. It is completely transparent."

      Get a USA prepaid sim.

$79 and you get calls and data for a month.

Hey friends sorry to resurrect this but I'd rather ask here than make a new thread ..

I'm looking to buy a US sim to use my iPhone when I'm in Vegas this summer and was hoping to get some insight,

Sprint offers a prepaid for 55$ for unlimited talk/text/6GB data

            and

AT&T offers a prepaid for 60$ for unlimited talk/text/4GB data

Are there any major differences between the carriers that would justify one over the other? Reliable service is more important to me than saving a few $ so is one carrier "better" than the other? Are there other options that I've missed?

And can these carrier's sim cards be purchased at CVS or Walgreens or the like or at the airport? Or do they have their own stores that I would have to go to?

            Thanks gang.

For anyone else using this information as a resource, I visited the sprint store last time I was over the border shopping and found out that they do NOT allow customers to purchase prepaid plans and bring their own phone. If you want to go prepaid with them you have to purchase one of their phones, otherwise bringing your own device means you have to sign up for a monthly, recurring plan.

AT&T however allows you to use your own phone and grab a prepaid plan with data, I got the plan I mentioned above.

                happy travels.

As far as I know, you can buy SIM cards right at the airport for most carriers. This could be outdated info, cause we include international roaming in our plan now, but back when the Mister was still the future mister and was coming stateside to visit, he always bought a SIM at LAX and put it in his phone.and I think TMobile let him have a temporary plan of some sort. Lol that's mildly unhelpful, it's been awhile. But anyway, i think you can get a card at the airport.
I'm not bitchy, I'm just drawn that way.

I live in Canada so when I go to Vegas I always use a readysim card. You need your phone unlocked. I never had a problem with the card and you can buy how long you want and the amount of data.
