Airfare & hotel Costs skyrocketed!

I went to Vegas has April 13-16 and got airfare from MSP-LAS + room at the Mirage for around $700. Was looking to make the same trip again this spring and the price basically doubled. What the heck happened??? I booked closer to the end of March last year. Am I looking too soon? I can't see any reason a midweek trip (April 10-13) would cost double.
