This - skinny jeans don't work on me. My Seven jeans are straight/tapered leg and are about as close to skinny jeans I can pull off

I've bought TR, Seven, Diesel, and yes I even have a pair of Affliction jeans in the back of my closet. In my defense, I bought them when they first came out and they aren't the gaudy ones. My absolute favorite jeans are BKE.

William Rast, Rock & Republic, 7, Levi's, Joe's, Lucky - it just depends on what you like. Touch and feel the weights and fabrics. Try some different cuts and washes on. I wear boot cut or straight. I ski, so my thighs are pretty strong and manly, so if I tried to wear skinny jeans, it would look like a goddam stuffed sausage!

Totally agree with these recommendations. I love my APCs, and I hear Gap Selvedge is actually pretty good for the price.

They also have a store in LA. Some pairs are really expensive, but way better quality for the money than some of the "good" brands.

I gotta agree with a lot of the above. Diesel, Rock & Republic and some of the more expensive/fashionable brands can be had at Nordstrom Rack for great prices. I know there is a Nordstrom Rack in Towson if you are in the Baltimore area. Prolly a few other locations close by. Also, as a few have already said, Kenneth Cole and Lucky are great jeans for a little less cash than the above. Skinny jeans don't fit my legs so I always look for straight leg first and work from there. Stay away from relaxed fit unless out of necessity. Those usually end up looking 2 sizes too big and baggy. Baggy is no bueno. Also no high waisted grandma jeans. My preference is low-rise but I've found the very occasional mid-rise that looks OK off the shelf. Oh ya one last thing.... get them hemmed!!! The frayed bottom jean look is no bueno. These are just my personal opinions.

Be careful when getting them hemmed specially at nordstroms, the tailor usually will measure and mark while your standing, big mistake because when you sit your jeans lift showing your socks and that's nasty. Lol. Have them measure and mark when your sitting. So when you stand the has a nice tuck and fold over your shoe. A little trick from me to you.

For real! I got burned once at Nordstroms with their alterations. Plus they are a little pricey for the sometimes shoddy work. When I lived in San Francisco there was this Russian family that had a little tailor shop down by Union Square. It was small and not glamorous but damn did they do a good job. And not very expensive. Even when I moved to Austin I'd have my girlfriend who lives in San Fran buy the pants I liked (couldn't find em here initially) and take them to that place. They even knew my measurements so she just dropped em off and boom.. three days later I had perfectly hemmed pants from 1600 miles away.

I go to the Nordstroms downtown Seattle and if I need jeans hemmed, I go to the suit department. Those guys know what they're doing and they get it right. Also - make sure you tell the tailor/seamstress who's doing the measuring that you want a 'double break', or at least a 'single break' - that will get you the length you need to not have em creep when you sit.
