So I recently screwed up bad. Many of you have bits and pieces of the story, but I wanted to set the record straight and fill everyone who is interested in on the whole story.
A while back I was approached by another member of JC.com who wanted to start a forum site for hosts. This person was a host themselves, and I thought that it was a neat idea and agreed to help him get the forums and back-end network/hosting stuff set up. I was told he had a 'private investor' to fund the project, and that I would be reimbursed for my time and services.
Now I'm a pretty friendly guy, willing to try and help folks out whenever I can, because I'm a firm believer in Karma. You never know when you may need help yourself, so I'm always willing to lend a hand. That, and I'm old (42) so I feel that I have to try harder than everyone else to fit in and be accepted by the herd. I was told that this new site was a brand new idea and would not compete with any existing sites in any way shape or form.
I started working on code tweaks for the site, as well as the back end database, putting in roughly 5 hours a night after my day job to make the site run well. Meanwhile the site owner, as well as his private investor/partner would spend their nights partying. I was asked to change my admin name by the private investor so that this new site 'wouldn't have any ties to jc.com'... turns out they were trying to keep the owner on jc.com for as long as they could as he was making $$ over here...
They hired on an ex-mod here to do some content generation, but this person claimed to only have a cell phone. Along comes helpful Brad and I sent that guy a free laptop... Come to find out that's his M.O.
The private investor suddenly started making changes (or demanding that I make changes). Next thing you know the site looks suspiciously like jc.com. I voiced my concerns and was continuosly told to 'not worry about it'. After a bit I started talking about leaving. I was then told that I was a 'part owner' of the site and was sent an image showing my name on LLC paperwork for the state of NV. I was also told that I needed to wire $$ into the owners bank account right away. Super shady.
I left and let Jack know what was up as I had tried to stay in semi-regular contact with him through the whole debacle. Jack told me to come back here, no worries. I came back and was immediately asked questions by several members who had Jack and teh good of JC.com in mind. I was already pretty pissed about being conned by these other guys at that new site, and was ashamed how the whole thing had snowballed, making me look like an asshole, and had a bottle of goose in me already at that point, so I lashed out at some folks. Erock, Dnix, etc come to mind. Sorry guys, I took your questions the wrong way... tok them as attacks instead of what they were... questions that needed to be answered about my actions of late.
I can't excuse my actions, and while I offer my apologies to you all I realize that this does not undo the fuck-up that I did. I know I will have to earn everyones trust again, and I am perfectly fine with that. I just wanted to let folks know what really took place, and that causing harm to Jack and/or this site was not my intent whatsoever. I just just trying to be 'helpful friendly Brad' but it backfired. Badly.
