  • Forums Posting Slowed Down??

I haven't been on the forums much lately, life been busy but when I check in now and then it seems to me like the forums dont seem as busy as they were even last year? Maybe I am imagining things but has alot of people stopped posting or slowed down? Has everyone just moved to the FB group instead?

Number of post and posters has increased every year. Heres a thread from 08/09 where we were getting excited because we were getting close to 1000 members. Its also the thread where MAYOD originated from.
    http://forums.jackcolton.com/showthread.php?t=1657

Were approaching 10k members now. Vegas is seasonal though, and this is a tourist site. We will always have more traffic as summer approaches, plus our Event is in May. The majority of visitors to the site are looking for information, not a social site, so we only keep 5-10% around after there trip. Honestly, considering the downturn on the economy, the forum has grown really fast the past 2yrs.

It usually slows down when the summer is over and picks back up when its almost MayOD time. Theres little spurts here and there with Halloween, NYE and March Madness.

If you're talking about "regulars" then yes. Posting has slowed down as people start using other forms of communication to stay in-touch.

The only thing that can keep a large forum of this type healthy in the long term is turnover. People get tired of the same voices, fissures develop, lives and priorities change. So it's definitely a positive that there are people constantly signing up and posting here, even if the overall daily user numbers might ebb and flow seasonally.

The arc I've seen over the years is from a forum that's virtually empty to one that has become the absolute source for the finest in vegas nightlife.

I haven't really been on here since autumn, but this post seems as salient as ever

To be honest, ever since the new rules were rolled out and more of a restriction on the hosts, I haven't been on here as much. I enjoyed being able to see what hosts were able to offer with out actually going through the hassle of contacting them first.

Forum traffic is actually up about 25% compared to last year, I think it just appears there are less posts the way the forum is divided up into more cities and categories now.

Yeah, I wasn't particularly enthused about the new rules either; seeing tables deals/offers happen in public was useful both to see what was possible and to live vicariously through them while not in Vegas. I understand that there were some "hosts" especially independents that were becoming a pain, but it does really feel like the baby out with the bathwater.

Fordan: Appreciate the input on this one. We are working on a couple of different options that can achieve the same thing without ruining the freedom on member-to-member discussion within the forums.

The problem wasn't only the independent hosts, but that every question asked by a new member was immediately spammed by multiple hosts, and then backed up by a handful of members who had benefited from comped bottles or hookups from them, even if it meant endorsing an otherwise less than par nightclub as "the best place ever." When we had less traffic, it wasn't as big of an issue. Now it is.

Members are still free to offer legitimate recommendations of hosts that they have used, and to tell stories of how much they paid, deals offered, etc. The line is crossed when it becomes obvious and regular solicitation on someone else's behalf, no matter the post.

Additionally, as always, there are always FREE direct listings of hosts and guest list contacts for every major nightclub in Las Vegas located on the main site. An estimated 4% of tables sold in most Las Vegas nightclubs are through the list we provide, which is a substantial volume that helps with "buying power" when people say they are through the site. This isn't something always achieved when hosts of every stature are offering "hookups" and promising things they can't deliver, which was happening.

I'd like to see a list of these "deals" that we're being posted by host. Cathouse is the only club I can think of that promoted a "deal". Most of the other host responded with "pm me" not prices. Host were never told they can't post. They just cant spam or hit threads with "pm me". They can still answer questions.

Deals are still posted by memebers. Right now Pure and RPM have deals going on and are posted. Im personally not sure why people would prefer to get info from a host vs a consumer. I never ask a car salemans how much I should pay for a car. I think the biggest mistake members make is thinking if a host post on this forum they can be trusted.

Fair point, when I think back Cathouse's deals are the ones that pop to mind, although the Palms comes to mind as well, more for the VIP bracelets/open bar deal than BS. I thought we also lost Anthony's "get on the guestlist" thread too.

Personally, I'd rather see information from both consumers and hosts. Yes, you need to take what the host tells you with a grain of salt, the size of which depends on their reputation here. Then again, I do actually ask car dealers questions on a car forum and realize I have to apply the salt there as well.
