  • Surrendering at Blackjack?

Can you surrender at the tables in Vegas? I have only ever seen 1 person do it, and I'm pretty sure (but not 100% certain) it was at Harrah's or Flamingo in Vegas.

I tried to surrender in Reno, but they didn't let me at the Atlantis.

Most casinos do, long as it's 6 decks or more. Not on the 2 deck tables

If you look at a basic strategy card, there are many times when you should surrender as you are in a losing advantage, like your 16 against a dealer showing a 10. The strategy is built for long term play and is totally appropriate and should be used often if one is following basic strategy correctly.

      Most Aria games offer surrender.
Been to Vegas too many times to count, partied in too many pools and clubs to track, but when you live so close, why wouldn't you?

Really? I thought you should on certain plays. Can you explain why not ever surrender?

If you have a hard 16 vs a dealer 10 you should ALWAYS surrender.

I don't believe this is the case.

When you start a game a blackjack, the house has a slight edge. We all accept that and decide to play anyway. However, after the cards are dealt, those odds change. Sometimes, you have a really good chance of winning, in which case you want to double down as the odds are in your favor. Similarly, in cases where the odds are stacked against you, why would you not want to cut your losses and take half your bet back?

For a 4 or 6 deck game surrendering it is the correct play if you have a 15 and the dealer has a 10, or if you have 16 and the dealer has a 9, 10 or ace... it is the mathematically correct move and part of the basic strategy. Many if not Most casinos in Vegas do allow surrender, but you have to ask and many players don't know about it. Last weekend I was playing at a $10 table at Bellagio and when I asked if I could surrender, I got a sarcastic " surrender in Vegas? We never surrender in Vegas.. " but of course it was allowed, I used it when it was the correct move, and the other players at the table learned how to use it... bottom line its use improves your odds and decreases the house odds and should be used...

It's just another aspect of the game we should learn to increase our odds. Don,t be bashful about asking! It's like knowing the difference from a table that pays 3:2 when you get blackjack from a table that only pays 6:5. The fact that many newbie players don't understand the difference has allowed 6:5 blackjack tables to proliferate on the strip, significantly diminishing the odds for anyone playing on those table. I couldn't find one 3:2 table at Cosmo last weekend, so I took my play to Casinos next door that pay 3:2 when you get blackjack...

For those less familiar to the game it behooves us all to take a few minutes and look up the"basic strategy" so you know the correct moves to make... don't be shy about asking if you can surrender (you probably can) and please, please before you sit down to play ask if the table pays 3:2 if you get Blackjack... If it doesn't, find a table that does!!! if we all did that the 6:5 tables would disappear and we all would have a better game

If you think that you should NEVER surrender.. you are wrong. If the table offers it you should use it when basic strategy calls for it. In my experience, Wynn/Encore and Cosmo all have a lot of tables that offer the option. The Ceasars hotels are getting worse where not only do they not offer Surrender, but they're paying 6/5 on BJ and only allowing you to double on 10 and 11.

Beware of those Types of BJ tables they are often at "party pits" and pools, etc.
