  • Good video blackjack games?

    1st post
havent played blackjack (or been to LV) in a while so ive been practicing basic strategy online (still gonna need a cheat sheet for when to double down on the soft hands though ).

anyway, ive heard there are video blackjack machines (dedicated machines, not the ones that look like the video poker machines) that have $3 minimums (and can accept up to $100/hand). this would seem a good way for a noobie to warm up before sitting down at the main tables.
anyone play these? do they have good rules (3:2 bj, S17, das, rsa...etc)? best place to find them? ideally id like to stay on the strip, so mgm and monte carlo maybe?

    thanks

Just sit at the main tables. Don't worry about being new at it, tell the dealer you haven't played before, and you'll be fine. I find those machines to be excessively creepy, to be honest; it's very Uncanny Valley. And it shouldn't be difficult to find a $5/hand table even on the strip, considering Bellagio has $10/hand pretty much all the time.

Most casinos do have those machines. They're circle shaped and have 5 maybe 6 seats around it. I would go with 44inarow and play at a table.

+3 on just playing at a table. I played with some noobs the last night I was there. They were hitting on 13 when dealer showed bust cards and all kind of crazy shit that people normally freak out about. In this case, in every instance they saved the table with their crazy play. Sometimes you just have to ride the wave of a beginners lucky streak. If you see someone betting $25+ per hand then I'd suggest finding a different table or be willing to take advice from that person as to how you should play a hand. In most cases they'll be happy to help and appreciate the fact that you're being considerate.
Like all great travelers, I've seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

If you're close to Wild Bill's they always have $5 tables and I've never ran into anyone too serious about gambling there...mostly newbies or hacks. Whenever I have someone in my group that wants to learn to play I take them there for an hour to help increase their comfort level. It may be a dump but the drinks are easy to come by and it's a different crowd than most other casinos on the strip.

But, like others have said...it's just a game. If you make a mistake it may help or hurt the rest of the table but that's what Vegas is all about. Good luck!

Haha my mom goes crazy when those people hit when they have a 12-16 and dealer is showing 4-6. She'll let them know too.
