I'm thinking about playing blackjack next time (7 days to go!), and I'd heard that casinos don't mind if a player uses a small cheat sheet listing good blackjack strategy, i.e. a chart listing what I want to do based on my cards and the dealer's up card. What about the other players? How would you feel playing at a table with a newbie who something like this?
Playing blackjack "cheat sheet"?

Would not bother me in the least bit. Plus it is better than you hitting an 18 vs dealer's 6Originally posted by gingerbread View PostI'm thinking about playing blackjack next time (7 days to go!), and I'd heard that casinos don't mind if a player uses a small cheat sheet listing good blackjack strategy, i.e. a chart listing what I want to do based on my cards and the dealer's up card. You should be able to find the basic black jack strategy pocket card just anoint everywhere in Vegas. As a player i would gladly welcome you at the table. It says that while you don't know exactly what youre doing but you're wanting to play the way that helps everyone. I'd take an entire table full of players like you than only one other player doing dumb things because they won't admit they can't play.
Good luck man!

There is absolutely no problem with using a cheat card at the table. The only issue casinos have with players using things at the table is when it is a mechanical device, say a phone or camera. So if you plan on taking a picture of one of the cheat sheets on wizardofodds.com and looking at it on your phone they may stop you.
the house edge at my local is 1.2%, so even with correct basic strategy (the card), the casino still expects to make money off of me.
Just remember that when you use a cheat sheet make sure you have the correct one.
Alot of tables in vegas have different rules, like dealer hits on 17, no doubles after splits, blackjack pays 6:5 instead of 3:2 ($10 wins $12 instead of $15)
minor details but they change the way you should be playing at that table
Have fun

Definitely use a card if you feel you need it. Much better than just trying to wing it and the other players will appreciate it! Also, if you have time, you can print one out online and practice at home before you leave for Vegas. If you practice with just you and another person, you can play ALOT of hands very quickly and you will pick it up in no time!
Good luck and have fun!2009: Bellagio

Makes you look humble and willing to learn without screwing up everyone. If you are not sure, just ask the table or dealer and people will always be friendly.

Dealers are more than happy to help. Remember, they want you to win (it means more tips for them).
But you can definitely use a basic strategy card at a table. I'd recommend playing $10 or $15 blackjack if you are going to use a card. When you start dealing with green and black chip players, they generally prefer the game move at a steady pace and using a card could slow things up.
Don't buy one there. Just print a small one offline and laminate it if you wish. It is a great way to learn the game.

While it's absolutely true that dealers are willing to help, I've also found that a lot of dealers give very bad advice. My last trip I had a dealer try to convince someone at the table to double a 10 with a face card showing, which is definitely not what your strategy sheet will tell you to do. It's fine to ask a dealer for help occasionally, but I wouldn't rely on them.Originally posted by Sorry4Partying View Postthe dealers are always willing to help you if you arent a douche anyways. That is definitely not a good call but sadly I do like to truly gamble and do it sometimes...But that's when I understand whoever else I'm playing with would hate me.Originally posted by 44inarow View PostWhile it's absolutely true that dealers are willing to help, I've also found that a lot of dealers give very bad advice. Oh, I do it sometimes too, I'm just saying that it's one thing to get advice from a dealer, and another to expect that advice to be "right" (i.e., what the book says). And for the record, it drives me nuts when people get mad at other players; nothing one player does do can affect anyone else over the long term. You play how you want, I'll play how I'll want, and we'll both slowly go broke together.Originally posted by JCase View PostThat is definitely not a good call but sadly I do like to truly gamble and do it sometimes...But that's when I understand whoever else I'm playing with would hate me.Originally posted by 44inarow View PostWhile it's absolutely true that dealers are willing to help, I've also found that a lot of dealers give very bad advice. The people who get mad are the ones that are playing with their savings or something of the sort. If you're going to Vegas thinking you're going to go home a millionaire...you have problems. I always set my money aside for gambling and go with the thought that it's already lost.Originally posted by 44inarow View PostOh, I do it sometimes too, I'm just saying that it's one thing to get advice from a dealer, and another to expect that advice to be "right" (i.e., what the book says). I've just gone and printed one of these off for my trip in 3 weeks time! I've dabbled in BJ on the odd occasion in the UK on drunken nights out but I mostly stayed with craps on my last trip to LV for fear of looking like a dick at the big casino BJ tables.
I'll only be playing with small amounts but I guess it makes a difference if you have some idea what you're doing!
