  • 1Oak (NYC) to take over JET?

Just heard that NY hotspot 1Oak (acronym for "1 of a kind") will take over JET in the Mirage.

Been before and this is definitely a high-end club and could thrive in the JET space. In NY, the venue considers itself an uber upscale-lounge rather than a mega-club (like its neighbor Avenue). Also well-known for staying open way past 4am (legal time liquor has to stop being served in NY).

Any news on when it will open? Has JET already closed?

It is going to be called 1 Oak. Their current plan is to have the grand opening on New Year's Eve.

I have a very strong connection here, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how well it does.

I've heard they hope to make it the toughest club to get into in Vegas.

        Interesting.

I wonder if they mean they'll try to create false demand to draw crowds or if they'll actually keep out fat dudes and ugly skanks. As has been noted here before, there are still clubs in other cities where getting past the velvet rope is reserved for the beautiful and stylish.

        An interesting development either way.

In NYC, 1 Oak is one of the most exclusive clubs in the city. They will literally turn away people willing to spend thousands if they aren't the kind of people they want in the club.

Vegas is a completely different animal from NYC and is ALL about the money. So they can't take the same approach because patrons will just take their business to XS, Marquee, etc... But they are going to try to have some exclusivity and will turn away certain types of people they don't want inside, assuming business is good enough.

The guys The Light Group is partnering with on this deal are some of the best in the nightclub business, so it's going to be interesting to watch.

Wow, very interesting. I really want to see what they're going to do to build up the demand. Also, how they plan to sustain the demand long term with all the other clubs in vegas. I guess we'll need to wait and see.

Mirage and Exclusive aren't really synonymous. I'd like to see how they'll pull this off.

I've been to 1Oak in NYC, and it was a good time - not the best time I had that trip - but good. It was certainly exclusive - my friend and I had to get walked in by a NYC Nightlife Legend.

Honestly, I thought SL was much more fun as far as a club / lounge goes... much more friendly... and I'll always harken back to the fun time at PDT and Milk & Honey

Yeah, it is going to be interesting to watch. Since no other clubs are really exclusive in Vegas, they are definitely going to have to walk a fine line.

I think money has to win out in the end. Something like 20 out of the top 50 grossing restaurants are in Vegas, and I'm sure most of the top grossing nightclubs are in Vegas as well.

Unless it's owner is one individual that wants an image over profits you'll see whales getting in long before sexy girls. You'll see bouncers told to screen only for the right 'fit' losen their standards for money.

                    People work on incentives.

This. Every AAA nightclub in Las Vegas is casino-owned property and operates under terms and conditions set by the casino. This means casino hosts can always walk their whales past the rope, no questions asked. It also means the club management is expected to hit certain numbers no matter how much exclusivity they have to sacrifice to get there.

Vegas is its own world. I doubt 1Oak in NYC would ever put up a giant billboard at JFK, but you can pretty much guarantee 1Oak in Vegas will have one at McCarran.
